“Forgive our Windows 8” for those that wanted to boot to desktop as option in 8.1 and leaving out the Start Menu in 8.1 maybe, but why anyone would want either is beyond me. Old tech really. Cumbersome and inefficient. Kind of like a little security blanket until ready for the full size bed blanket of the Start Screen. Looks like you’ll get to keep your desktop with more of them and your little Start Menu too. The only complaint I agreed with was the lack of multi windowing of Store apps. Although snapping is a good idea, it would not meet all scenarios, especially on a tower PC.
I get this feeling that they’re not adding multi desktops for just “Desktoppers”, though. I keep wondering why they would run the floating windows of Modern Store apps on the desktop as Thurrott explains in a paragraph here:

Not technically advanced enough to know if that’s the only way they can window the Store apps or if this is a lure to get more people to try and use Store apps. My complaint is that I’m forced to use the desktop to do so, but if I continue to use the auto hide for the Taskbar as I do now, it won’t seem like I’m on the desktop at all.Modern mobile apps now run in floating windows on the desktop. These windows include a new Options button ("...") to the right of the window control button that provides app commands (which vary by app), plus system commands that used to be part of Charms (and still are, if you interact with the system using touch). These include Search, Share, Play, Print, Project, Settings, and Full Screen, the latter of which toggles the app between floating window and full-screen views.

I was referring to the original Windows 8 when it came out with all the flack it received. I agree the 8.1.1 was a vast improvement.

Microsoft France president: "In the next few days, we'll be releasing Windows 9" [Update]
New information about the next major version of Windows has been coming through thick and fast in recent weeks, with many of the most exciting details revealed exclusively here on Neowin, long before they showed up in the videos that have leaked more recently.
But one aspect of the new OS that remains somewhat unclear is its name: just what will the new Windows be called? Its internal development codename is 'Threshold', of course, but it is also widely referred to as 'Windows 9'.
As WPCentral reports, the Windows 9 moniker was actually mentioned today by the president of Microsoft France, Alain Crozier - and this may well be the first instance of a senior Microsoft figure using that name publicly.
Crozier was speaking at a press event which was also streamed online, at which he said that "in the next few days, we'll be releasing Windows 9." That was likely a reference to the event being held in San Francisco next week, at which it will officially share details about the new OS for the first time.
