    Bob and Zorg,

Thanks a heap for your willingness to help. I do, in fact have Everything-Search and have used it for years. It was my first resort when the file disappeared, but no luck. I'm not sure what happened to it, but I've checked all of the usual suspects, and found nothing. Since I don't need it, I'm going to just let it lie, wherever it may be. If it made it to my machine, it's there somewhere, and it'll turn up later, or still later. Meanwhile, I took the CU for 21H2 this aft, and it seems ok so far.

That's what I thought. I was saying to myself you already probably knew about it.

Okay, I've hit an ignorant patch in my own savvy. I downloaded

    http://download.windowsupdate.com/d/...b27cd683d0.msu

but I can't find it anywhere. Where might I look, other than in Downloads and my default download folder?

I didn't need it; I just want to find it. I realized while it was downloading that I had already upgraded from 21H2 xxxx to 21H2 1202.
Just look in the settings of your browser for where it's set to download things.

Installed in 50 minutes, sat 10 minutes each on 21% and 74%, required 1 manual restart (WUA), both DISM and SFC OK, now on builld 21H1 19043.1237.

Applied through WU, boot did not complete (froze on restart when moving from kernel load to loading the shell, with graphics card turned off, which happens a lot with this machine with WU or some installs that modify the system, like virus checkers). SFC found four instances of cross-linked directories and fixed them and the involved files. DISM check gave the message "The restore operation completed successfully." twice, as usual. WU history shows KB5005565 installed successfully.

Installed, a bit longer than usual but not bad, no SFC errors, no problems so far.

    For anyone it may help...

Click > ' Check for update', through DL/Install, back to desktop, took precisely 30 minutes. DL was fast, 'Install', took longer.

Typical stall, at 21 and 74%.

SFC (first pass), checked good. (Usually 2 or 3 minutes)

DISM, .../Analyze Component Store > Found one 'Reclaimable Package'. Cleanup Recommended 'Yes'. (2 or 3 Minutes)

DISM, .../Start Component Cleanup > Cleaned up, everything good to go. (2 minutes, max)

...but then, ran SFC again............. Took over an hour, found 'Corrupt Files' and 'Repaired them'.

In the end, everything is working fine. But what gives with the 'Corrupt Files', and why did it take so long for SFC to complete, the last time?

Your guess, is a good as mine.

And despite DL'ing and Installing KB5005565, I am still at 21H1. (What am I missing?). I readily admit, my PC ignorance.

My 'Stats' are as current, as my knowledge allows. Currently at Version 21H1 19043.1237
