    Hi folks
Why on earth would Ms block the use of VPN's -- if they did that around 65 - 70% of business usage of Windows would become impossible -- I'm not sure how many people would be able to work remotely from Home if VPN's were all blocked !!!

Amazing some of the stuff people are alleging that W11 will require or block -- just wait a couple of weeks and see how it all pans out. The thing that would definitely end it for me would be if the OS had to be encrypted (via TPM usage) -- certainly not on a Home computer -- on a Work machine -- not my problem !!!!!!

Just the other day there were a lot of seemingly serious posts saying W11 hardware would be checked on VM's as well -- that's a mega hard issue to actually enforce if the VM BIOS is able to emulate the required real hardware !!!!!!!.

    Cheers

I agree it makes no sense, however MS have been "messing" with the code/functions in that area. I would guess this would be to improve security. My VPN desktop app failed to connect after the upgrade to Win 11 and the solution was to uninstall the client and reinstall. Then the VPN connection clients would connect once or twice and then fail to connect until a reboot. It was improved with 22000.132 but I still get the occasional failure.

Well, the new PC checker is online and well... only my CPU isn't capable of running Win 11. Does this mean I can't run Win 11 AT ALL or don't I get after install no updates?

    Intel Core i5 - 6400

Except THAT all is in order!

You may be able to install it from an ISO, but somewhere down the line it may not provide you with updates that use one or more of the hardware features of more current processors.

There has been a lot of speculation in the technical press based on very little actual information from Microsoft. It is said that MS will allow you to use an ISO to upgrade an unsupported machine, but that subsequent Windows Updates may not be provided. Microsoft have neither confirmed or denied the speculation.

I have W11 on one unsupported PC with a 1st gen i5 and a Legacy bios/MBR install. That has been getting all the CUs up to and including the latest 22000.194.

Truth is, no one can say for certain until the RTM release and the Windows Update servers start issuing updates on the public release channel.

According to what little info can be found on the subject, systems running unsupported cpu's will crash much more frequently.
I've successfully installed W11 on machines from 4th gen cpu through 7th.
They've all updated to the latest CU, no problems so far.

But, yeah let's wait and see what MS will send out in October.

    Cheers,

I have been running W11 on two machines for a couple of months now, one is a fully supported machine, the other way below spec in almost all respects. If anything, it's the unsupported machine that has the cleanest Reliability History.

But, yeah let's wait and see what MS will send out in October.
I'll be watching carefully to see what happens to my unsupported machine, just to see if the threat of 'no more updates' is actually true. Anyway, I still have it's original W10 HDD to put back in if that turns out to be the case.

All interesting stuff as I read somewhere about the frequency of crashing on unsupported CPU's but forget where. I'm running 11 on a spare laptop with an unsupported CPU and all's well. Judging by other forum members that are following the same path there have been zero or very few problems which may not be related to the CPU.

Will be interesting to see how this pans out post Oct 5

The source is MS themselves but I suspect you read that on Ars Technica.

Well, thank goodness I have still LOTS of empty DVDs so I just might think to hop over to 11... no matter WHAT M$ thinks about my poor little CPU!

-- calms down CPU -- Good CPU, nice CPU... M$ is saying bad things about you huh?

    Hi there
Ms seems to be running in 2 directions at once

W22KServer trial is available and really good (free for 180 days is users want to mess around with a Windows server at home for a while) and unlike the ist release this one really works -- very fast and snappy too - even as a VM with only 2GB RAM assigned. -- eevn with the GUI (choose the desktop experience version).

This seems to be totally based on W10 code and going for LTS - and aimed at corporate and business users - where a lot of them won't upgrade 100's or even 1000's of computers to W11 for absolutely ages yet - and there's bound to be all sorts of new developments by 2025 in any case.

Might it be that W11 could be like "The Piltdown Man" -- going nowhere -- so probably we'll have a mix of W10/W11.

With W2k22 Server as the main mainstream business Windows product (with Office of course) and LTS support for W2k19 server as well as increasing the Azure Cloud offering (very profitable for Ms and popular with businesses) I just can't see where Ms is going with the W11 product (even if we all on these Forums like playing / testing / modyfying /breaking it.

Next few months - we shall see but I'd really like to understand what's going on at the top of Ms these days !!!

BTW for HOME users who want to try out HYPER-V -- why not download the free trial of server W2K22 and then you can play with HYPER-V to your hearts content for free !!! No need to upgrade to Windows Home. --It's --needs the server version -- but you can still use the stand alone bootable version for backups etc -- or dual boot a standard Windows system to run the OS version from within Windows.

    Cheers
