Yes, I agree. Obvious logic, and Edge is very good.

But, to keep things in perspective, I wonder why MS pushes Edge so much. The answer is, as I read recently: "Today all apps and software, no matter how benign they appear, are designed to maximize data collection" (NYT). That is, user data, much of which should be private. And I suppose that when Edge is installed, even if it is not used, is busy collecting data.

Sigh - not the tediously boring old privacy chestnut again.

What evidence do you have to support Edge collects data when not used?

I don´t have any evidence, it´s just my default belief. MS must gain something if Edge is used, otherwise they would not care. The aggressiveness in promoting Edge makes me suspicious.

And I have noticed that, when I do a disk cleaning with CCleaner, there appears info to be deleted relating to "Edge Chromium - Internet Cache" and "Edge Chromium - Internet History", although I almost never use Edge (also about Internet Explorer, which I stopped using many years ago).

We're also deleting Edge and IE for many years now. To make it short, such internal components are targeted on a daily basis by hackers. The rest is about human intelligence.

We do the exact same thing in Linux, the default browser is deleted.

Thanks for sharing the MajorGeeks method,

    Code:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\” with key: “DoNotUpdateToEdgeWithChromium” with value “1”. This registry change will prevent Edge from installing in the future
