I updated two old computers to Windows 10.
Computer #1: AMD FX 8350 & 8GB DD3 RAM. I hadn't used it for a while because it was too slow. I am using it again after I replaced the 3.5-inch boot SATA HDD with a 2.5-inch SATA SSD. That really made a big difference so now its speed is more than acceptable.
Computer#2: AMD Phenom 960T & 8GB DDR2 RAM. I haven't used it for over a year now. I haven't decided what its future is.
Hopefully you upgraded the computer with an FX 6350 with an SSD because that really made a difference for me.
Yes, my first SSD went into and stayed in FX 6350, what a revelation !! While I still had it ha W10 but I reverted it to W7 when I gave it away
I also acquired a laptop (My computer #2) , it didn't have a disk so I installed an SSD I have been using as portable withUSB3 adapter. It has a sticker with W7 home license. Installed W10 and with my MS account it was recognized and activated right away. Now it's oldest machine with W10 here. I'm not going to bother with Phenom 965BE although I have a spare SSD and it should also work.
of computers. But you say you can add SDD to an existing computer just by plugging it into a USB port? Can you provide me with a picture of what one looks like? Or a URL to see a web site selling one? Or something for a computer illiterate person like me that simply wants some "speed" or whatever SDD provides. Since I don't have any SDD now, that might be a simple solution.
Yes, any HDD, ODD and SSD could be set as external drive by using an USB adapter, 2.5" drives need only USB while 3.5" also need a power (12v) adapter. Just one example:

Looks like a cheap way to increase speed. But I'm surprised. You also need a 2.5" HD/solid state device. So how much is that? Is that cheap too? When I searched on Amazon, it shows too many for an amateur like me. Prices from $50 to $300 or more. How am I supposed to know which to buy?
choosing an external drive for use with a windows system has a number of questions to be answered
- How much can I afford to pay ?
- How much space do I need ?
- How fast does the hard drive need to be? [ USB Pen Drive - Spinner HDD - SSD - NVMe]
- Do I need a case or a cable connector?
- what ports do I have available ?
Answer these questions in order to arrive at the best you can get at this moment, as long as the first question gives an answer less than what the other questions suggest you have your device,
if any do not meet your minimum requirements than you are best waiting as there is nothing worse than buying a drive that is filled up quickly.
