I keep getting emails that there are new posts on this thread, but when I come here and look, there are none.

EDIT: Fixed. Admin moved Help messages to its own topic.

    Okay,
Applied Windows 10 August updates (KB50050330) to first of 3 laptops (Dell 7386, 64-bit, Win 10 Home, version 20H2). All seemed to go well, except that when I got to the login page and logged in, when I clicked on "power" one of my options was "Update and restart" as though it wasn't finished. Once I chose "update and restart," the update completed with no immediate issues that I could see. SFC found no issues and DISM (CheckHealth and ScanHealth) found no issues.

However, when I ran "DISM/.../AnalyzeComponentStore," I got "Number of Reclaimable Packages : 1," "Component Store Cleanup Recommended : Yes"
When I reviewed the Analyze Component Store Tutorial here on the Forum (link below), it said that I "could" clean up the component store if I wanted to reduce its size.

Analyze Component Store (WinSxS folder) in Windows 10

So here's my question: "should" I clean up my component store if I don't currently need the space, just for housekeeping purposes or some other reason? Or should I only worry about this if I might need to reduce the size of the Component Store or if I start having multiple reclaimable packages?

I'm the first to admit I know little about DISM and related functions, so please bear with me.

Yes but don't use the /ResetBase flag if you think you may need to back out any updates.

Okay, these two replies help. I'll go poke around in more of the details of the various commands so I know the options or flags I can use and what they do, and can then come up with a strategy to balance being able to back out updates with clearing out files I don't need. Thanks!

    Laurie,

Like you, I am not pressed for space.

Therefore, whenever I run the 'AnalyzeComponentStore' command, if it finds a 'Reclaimable Package', and recommends cleanup, as you have indicated.

    I run one command afterward. > Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

Running this (the above) command, will be all you need. Of course, if you wish, afterward, you may again run the > Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore command, just to make sure the 'Reclaimable Package' was regained, and that 'Store Cleanup Recommended' , is now a 'No'.

If or when, the time comes that you are indeed, pressed for space, then there are other options. But that does not appear necessary at this time.

    Take care.

Yes! A very good reliable 7 step solution is the nicely done CMD script file "ImageHealth".
You can find it on the net but for your convenience I also attached it.
