Did this update add the banner to the settings app for anyone?

Solved the problem. After installing KB5004296 if you have your task bar set to top the problems persists, however, if you place the task bar on the bottom you gain "News" and you no longer have a problem with Start or Settings. Microsoft has done it to me again, this time in Windows 10. Just to be sure I looked in regedit and the part you could change to put the task bar on top is set to 01, they figured a way around that hack too. Talk about dominating your software, Microsoft is doing it!

Yep, News and Interests will only be available if the taskbar is on the bottom of the screen.

@meebers, I don't recall ever being able to delete the LCU contents without first being asked to confirm my administrator rights, so I don't think it's something new with this update. Just wait until you get Windows 11, there security has been raised a notch, you first have to take ownership and grant yourself full control before you can delete a folder in LCU.

I always thought that the command-line: "Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /StartComponentCleanup" would have taken care of the LCU folder's content, but after verifying I realized that it did not. So I had to do it manually according to the answers given in this old thread by many members:

How to clean files in C:\Windows\servicing\LCU

The only thing is that I had to give administrator permission to two prompts:




After that everything was a cinch and saved me 0.97GB and 1.12GB in my production and non-production machines respectively.

Now, time to redo my backups.

Have you previously changed permissions to give yourself full control? That's the only explanation I can figure out....
