    UPDATE 8/18: KB5005101 Windows 10 Insider RP 19043.1200 (21H1) 19044.1200 (21H2)

The KB5003791 Enablement Package allows you to go from 2004, 20H1, or 21H1 to 19044 (v21H2).

Hello Windows Insiders, today we’re releasing 21H1 Build 19043.1149 (KB5004296) to the Release Preview Channel for those Insiders who are on 21H1.

NOTE: Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel on 21H1 will not receive this update. We will be flighting Windows 11 Insider Preview builds to these Insiders soon!

This update includes the following change in addition to all the improvements listed as part of Build 19043.1147:

    • We added a new policy that creates generic strings and removes branding-specific terms, such as “Windows” or “PC”, for IoT Enterprise editions. For example, we changed “computer” to “device”. Instead of “Getting Windows ready,” we changed that to “Getting things ready” and so on. These generic strings are displayed on a user’s screen when an update is in progress.

    Thanks,
    The Windows Insider Program Team

Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 10, version 21H2 Build 19044.1149 (KB5004296) to the Release Preview Channel.

As a reminder, this update will apply to Windows Insiders in Release Preview already on Windows 10, version 21H2 (Build 19044.1147) and Insiders who were moved from the Beta Channel to the Release Preview Channel because their PC did not meet the hardware requirements for Windows 11. For those Insiders already on Windows 10, version 21H2, this update will come through automatically via Windows Update. For Insiders not yet on 21H2, if this update is available for you, it will be offered via our “seeker” experience which means these Insiders will need to go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and choose to download and install Windows 10, version 21H2.

This update includes the following change in addition to all the improvements listed as part of Build 19044.1147:

    • We added a new policy that creates generic strings and removes branding-specific terms, such as “Windows” or “PC”, for IoT Enterprise editions. For example, we changed “computer” to “device”. Instead of “Getting Windows ready,” we changed that to “Getting things ready” and so on. These generic strings are displayed on a user’s screen when an update is in progress.

To check and see if you’re running Windows 10, version 21H2, just type “winver” into the Windows search box on the Taskbar. It should show as “Version 21H2”.

If this is in the wrong thread, I apologize for that and ask that it be moved to the right thread.

I thought I understood the "plan" for these future releases. I first thought Win 11 was coming out next Spring (22H1) but then was told it was coming out this Fall (21H2). But now, I see that the RP is 19044, not 22000, so to me, that means that it is NOT coming out until next Spring.

So, this means we will be able to buy a PC this Fall with Win11 on it, but it Win11 itself won't be released to the public (GA) until next Spring.

Is that correct -- or am I still confused?

Only Dev builds are for Windows 11 ... for now. Windows 10 will be around for the next 5 years. Just think of all PCs that are not suitable for 11. So MS have to develop both Windows 10 and 11.

The thing to remember about Vendors and PCs this Fall and into next year is, is a new one going to be Win 11 certified, not does it have Win 11 installed on it. It would be really rough for vendors to get that part done along with all the rest. You can still buy Lappys and DTs brand new right now with Windows 10 1903 and 1909 on them. Same issue. Vendors bundle all there foo-foo into the raw RTM OEM OS that MS gives them. Not gonna be time to get all the done. Even if RTM 11 is given to the vendors in Sept. it's a very tall order. So, IMHO, you're gonna see a push to sell as many Win 11 capable and certified boxes as possible and the heck with the OS that's on it. You see all the time in the ads "Eligible for FREE upgrade to Win xx". That will say "Eligible for FREE upgrade to Windows 11". Some vendors who have cpu/tpm/secure boot ready boxes out there are already saying that in their ads. It may well have Win 10 1909 on it, but it's ready.
