    - Windows Software Removal
    - NET Framework
    - the CU

Sofware Removal and NET Framework took 2 min.

    CU took 30 min.

And this is on a freakin M.2 - 2TB SSD... i switched from HDD to M.2 LITERALLY to not have to deal with this crap every CU... i swear man... MS are getting more and more retarded by the day.

Let the poor guy vent. It's better hitting your head on the wall rather than on someone.

The Software Removal tool and NET Framework were fast like 2-3 minutes.

But the damn CU itself took 30 min... in total around 33 min... i remember my HDD for CUs took like 40 min... jesus christ if on M.2 it takes 30 min for a CU to install... i might be considering moving to Linux.
I'm also running Linux Mint and such updates are not any faster.

    Not Myself said:
First try clearly stalled at 74%. Not really knowing what to do, I restarted the computer, which resulted in the screen that Windows was being prepared, which also was clearly stalled.

Ignoring the warning to not turn off the computer, I did that; took a while holding down the switch, but eventually it was turned off. Restart was quite normal, so I went to Windows Update which immediately began to install the previously downloaded up date. This went very quickly, as did the final step of installing.
I have had this happen too many times, lucky for you it started normally. Last time I had to do a system restore. That "preparing windows" screen probably meant you would have booted to a generic desktop and had all kinds of trouble.

Mine was missing since the CU update yesterday. Today I did a manual check for updates, and got the latest defender update. I closed out of the update tool and relaunched Settings the Banner is back.

I've done this at least twice, dreading each time what the result might be. The next time might be anything but successful and unfortunately I have forgotten the medieval incantation to handle this situation. So much for my academic background.

CU install times are system dependent, sometimes one will install very slow for me but it will be quick for others, this one was the quickest I've had in a while. The speed also depends on what updates have been installed previously, the longer the break between updates, the longer they take to download/install. This is because of their cumulative nature.
