For the people who only take ten minutes to install your updates, what do your computers have? Because I wouldn't mind changing out some parts of my computer if it means faster updates.

I have spent about forty minutes now trying to install the regular cumulative update. Getting stuck multiple times for very extremely long times. It went up only one percent within the past almost ten minutes.
NVMe SSD, 8 core, 4.4GHz CPU and 16GB of 3600MHz RAM but most of time taken with my system is downloading because of relatively slow (10-20Mbps) internet. That's why (internet speed) there's great variation during updates depending on how large update is. In this case, update was small so it took a bit more than half of total time taken. With large updates, even 80-90% of time is taken with download. Updates in general are very inefficient, uses only one core and little memory no matter what system has so it has little influence.
Fast disk seems to be of most help during installation phase. When updating on a SATA SSD, it's usage hovers about 99% which puts some strain on rest of the system while with NVMe drive it's usage rarely goes over 10%.

Laptop I7 7500 + SSD + 200Mb/s Internet. Today it was fast other times it is slow. No idea why.
Depends on how large update is and what it changes. Updates that make windows.old take much longer to install. This one seems to be small update with changes that don't require so much backing up, no windows.old folder this time.

Got mine updated an hour ago, took 10 minutes as well:

    And before restart:

So 10 minutes all in all for this piece alone.

All good so far by the way...

First try clearly stalled at 74%. Not really knowing what to do, I restarted the computer, which resulted in the screen that Windows was being prepared, which also was clearly stalled.

Ignoring the warning to not turn off the computer, I did that; took a while holding down the switch, but eventually it was turned off. Restart was quite normal, so I went to Windows Update which immediately began to install the previously downloaded up date. This went very quickly, as did the final step of installing.

Windows.old is created when you have a major version update, so it should not get created from only a monthly CU. Have you experienced differently?

That was just example of difference in update time between "ordinary" CU and major updates when they change most of system files.

Did MS just go "FULL RETARD" again with this CU ?

    Seriously it downloaded

    - Windows Software Removal
    - NET Framework
    - the CU

Sofware Removal and NET Framework took 2 min.

    CU took 30 min.

And this is on a freakin M.2 - 2TB SSD... i switched from HDD to M.2 LITERALLY to not have to deal with this crap every CU... i swear man... MS are getting more and more retarded by the day.

Why all that head banging ?
It's "Malicious Software Removal tool" update, no APPs or other SW was removed. That happens occasionally,
Haven't seen no NET Framework update.

The Software Removal tool and NET Framework were fast like 2-3 minutes.

But the damn CU itself took 30 min... in total around 33 min... i remember my HDD for CUs took like 40 min... jesus christ if on M.2 it takes 30 min for a CU to install... i might be considering moving to Linux.
