Not sure where you're finding that at
Hi guys, I couldn't reply to both so here it is. I didn't say I couldn't pin anything, I said I can't pin what I want. Win 10 allows users to have a desktop, links, address, Bing search and yes even an other toolbar.
Add Toolbars to Taskbar in Windows 10

I have all sorts of stuff on my taskbar but I can't put a folder (like I can on desktop) can't put a txt, Excel, Word etc. file (and I'm not talking about creating a new shortcut that's going 5 steps backwards I have that for Win 11 forum) on the taskbar. If you're going to limit to start menu and taskbar, fine, just let the user drag and drop what ever they want. Having the more options choice I can live with but I'm still not sure if I like it.

Things should get easier as time goes on not Win 8'ished if you get my pun.

No, it doesn't. In latest versions of 11 when you make the taskbar small, the position of the clock and icons are off.
I have tried the registry tweak and it worked for me except for the icons in the system tray area which are a bit off balance. The other icons on the Taskbar are OK. I have to admit that I am using Win 11 in a Hyper-V VM which is a bit different from what one gets if you are part of the Insiders program.

Here is hoping that by the time the stable release of Win 11 is out, there will be some adjustments made in order to use the Taskbar just the way it was in Win 10. That may also depend on how many complaints there have been in the Feedback hub to that regard.

I'm sorry, but I'm still confused

I can pin any Office app icon to the taskbar in Windows 11 just as I could in Windows 10. Now if you mean the icon needs to open a particular document - say Excel needs to open your budget sheet when clicked from the taskbar, no that's not going to happen. But again, that's also how it works in Windows 10.

However (just as Windows 10), if you mouse over an icon and right click it, you'll be presented with your last 10 most recent pages that app opened. If the page is you want is listed, just click that page. You can also pin pages within as shown here....

    Introducing Windows 11-pin-within-icon.jpg

Here I have both Electronics and CD's pinned to the top. I have also clicked on My Budget 2020 to "Pin to this list". Now when I right click the icon I simple click the page I want to open and that particular page will open. The same will happen with Word, Notepad (.txt), PowerPoint, even Edge, and other apps.

Now I get this isn't a one click solution, but it's not been that way in 10, or previous OS's. I also get that you can't place folders there. However, just as I've shown for Excel, if you've got "Windows Explorer" pinned to the Taskbar, it works just like the example shown of Excel... will show you last most recent pages, and you can pin within. The difference here is these will be "folders"

But again, this is no different than what Windows 10 does

I know exactly what recent file list is.
If that's your way of using it in 10 I'm cool with that but it's not mine (besides it enables recent list in start) which is small enough already. Like I said, I used multiple tool bars on taskbar that is desktop and links.
This way, I could put anything either on the taskbar or any toolbar within the taskbar. Doesn't look much different than the actual taskbar except I'm limited to one bar and not what I want.

I'm actually using it that way on BOTH Windows 10 and Windows 11 as I have Windows 11 installed on my backup system as well as my main laptop

But yeah, I see where you want two rows on the taskbar. And yes, this isn't possible with Windows 11 right now.

    Good luck.

Please keep in mind no matter how polished (to some) the OS looks and runs it's still early beta

To me, that's the most impressive part - how well its running for an early beta. That said, I suppose it better run pretty good now seeing it's scheduled to be RTM this year

However, how can nothing more than just a spin-off of the 6 year old Windows 10 really be considered an early beta? I would consider it to be just advanced development of Windows 10.

Yeah, not like when I beta tested XP, man that was bad and Vista but the worst was Win ME

That's why it runs so smoothly. The changes aren't major like XP to vista. Vista to 7 had bugs but less than XP to Vista. Win 98 to XP and XP to Vista where major changes, and boy there was a lot of beta bugging to log.
