So if you do not meet the requirements it will not install? The reason I ask is my wife laptop is non-compliant (CPU) for win 11. I also had a heck of time keeping Windows 10 off of my Lenovo laptop which was not compliant as each time MS changed the Windows update for it I had to modify the system so it would not install.
The good news is my desktop i got last October is full compliant
My now ancient water cooled overclocked Asus Strix X-99 Gaming has no clue what TPM is ... no Windows 11 for me
Very grey area probably.
The proper question is: what is the real-life-use difference between Gen6 & Gen8 of Intel CPUs? I honestly can't feel a thing...
Only one problem with that suggestion--I'd have to get rid of ~80% of my software, even with emulators/translators, not to mention I'd have a very hard time finding decent drivers for some of my hardware. I think that for people who do little more than tinker with their OS, run a browser, and own the (narrowly) supported hardware for which decent open-source Linux Mint drivers exist, Mint is just fine. But it would never amount to a substitute for Win10/11 for me--it's not even close. Bought my CPU, GPU, and motherboard 23+ months ago, started formatting in GPT and running UEFI/secure boot long before that, and so "Win11" poses no obstacle at all today.
My biggest pet peeve is that "Win11" seems at first look little more than PR & marketing because if you are running 64-bit Win10 you are already running Win11 in most of the particulars. But for the people running 32-bit Windows 10 with no TPM 2.0 onboard, Win10 has ~3.5 years of support ahead of it. So, you are not being dumped... I sort of don't get the idea that while people enjoy running the latest in Windows OS versions they often feel the opposite about buying the latest hardware. It's a puzzle!
Win11 basically boils down to ending 32-bit OS versions of Windows and making 64-bits the baseline OS, and making TPM 2.0 & WDDM 2.x GPUs the baseline hardware. So, in that sense, I suppose, Win11 is certainly understandable as a clean break from Win10 as the baselines have changed.
What's the life expectancy for 64-bit Windows Pro? That's when I'll have to switch to a motherboard / CPU if I haven't done already ... assuming I'm still alive
I think i read that microsoft said that windows 10 will get updates and be supported until October 2025....
I don't have that TPM on my 2016 Hp Pavillion Laptop or the other stuff 11 wants so will just stick with 10 until i am ready to buy a new HP Pavillion Laptop...when of course i would get Windows 11 automatically...

hmmm, my A10 Athlon isn't on the list so I'll have to upgrade processor and motherboard on two PC's.
When I tried to download the Github win 11 checker, Chrome gave me this "Unconfirmed 715703.crdownload" instead of the actual file name of "WhyNotWin11.exe" because Chrome will not allow you to download and .exe file. Just change the name and extension and it works fine.
