    No, you'll get all the W11 updates as I have been doing so since build 22000.51. What you (and I) won't get are the new apps that are only being delivered for testing by Insiders, such as the new Store, the new Paint app or the Clock app.

    Whether that will continue after W11 is officially released is an open question.....

    That's correct. It will update and apps are not part of the OS obviously.
    As we speak I just finished updating a pc with a fourth gen cpu. No probs whatsoever.

    I'll see your fourth gen, and raise you a first gen i5

    That gives me a glimmer of hope as I also have a 4th gen processor with my HP Envy.

    Thanks.
    I'm rather hoping that once it's installed, it will stay installed through whatever updates come, and won't suddenly tell me that I can't run it any more!
    It does seem to work fine as I said on my old hardware, I don't think my x5460 Xeon processors are officially supported, letalone the motherboard with no secure boot or TPM.
    Just shows how artificial these restrictions are, as it actually works perfectly on the hardware!

    That remains to be seen once Windows 11 is officially released, if MS wanted to they could easily put a 'kill switch' in the final code to disable it from running on unsupported hardware (hopefully not).

    The hardware requirements are only enforced by the installer at present. Once installed (by one workaround or another) the Insider release can certainly run on nearly anything. Again, whether those workarounds will still work for the release version remains to be seen.

    I was surprised and pleased to find that using the information here, and here, I was able to install Windows 11 on my ancient (for a computer) 2009 motherboard.
    After some Windows Updates, I now have Windows 11 Pro version 21H2 build 22000.160.
    Seems to be working absolutely fine.

    Once you get it on your computer, I think it will update properly, until... Until the official release, at which time you will have to reinstall Win10. Unless, as IronZorg says, they really reduce the hardware requirements. It's hard (impossible) to know where they are in their deliberations. I have a 7th Gen CPU, which doesn't qualify at present. I am beginning to feel that the requirements won't change. I sure do wish MS would give some word as to their current thinking on this, but MS is just about the worst communicator I have ever seen.

    Hi,
    @sgage:

    Have installed W11 on a 7th gen machine too. Runs fine.
    Honestly, I think MS would be shooting themself in the foot if they restrict the hardware to silly levels.
    @DaveH1:

    It's surprising too see it even installs on dual cpu machines. Let's see what happens at final release but hey, running W10 worst case isn't too bad, is it ?

    Cheers,

    My glimmer of hope is in the realm of a parallel universe as those two hardware requirements will probably stick: TPM 2.0 and 7th or 8th gen processors (not below). My HP Envy doesn't cut it since it doesn't have any of those: i7-4770 Intel Core and no TPM at all. I think I can keep it until 2025 on Win 10 or even beyond. Fortunately my non-production machine (Asus) is almost brand new (bought last year) and will pass any hardware requirements for now.
