I just ran WhyNotWin 11 on my Acer Spin i7 laptop. Everything passed except the CPU compatibility. It shows a ! mark. My laptop has a i7-6500U running @ 2.50 GHz. It has 2 cores and 4 threads so I don't see why I can't run Windows 11 on it. PC Health Checks still says I can't run Win 11 on this desktop.

7th gen pretty beefy and nice system is barred, also. So they say. Guess that's why it clean installed with no issues. Hmmmmm.

oh! Should we be talking about this here?
Thing I wonder about is will Windows 11 RTM install on non-compliant hardware that it's installing on now. MS allowing Windows 11 Dev builds to install on non-compliant hardware is strategically smart on their part so they can collect more telemetry data on Windows 11.

Interesting! I do think my laptop will run Windows 11 with no problem. My two desktops are good to go. All three are on the Insider DEV channel. I think I'm going to try Win 11 on my new desktop first. It's my main computer. I have Macrium images so I can easily go back to the Insider build or back to the original Win 10 build and not have to go through the h**l of reloading my programs and setting. On my Wife's laptop I'm not going to check until Windows 11 is released to the general public. I didn't have to use Chrome. I'm using Edge and when I clicked your link I had the option to translate to English.

I have already shown one way to do it - which is just my usual method of installation by applying the image.

It runs fine on 3rd gen intel.

You could skip the checks with a small registry edit to boot.wim, but it is even simpler to just apply the image directly which is the
way I have been installing windows for years..

It is too early to be certain about the final win11 release, but I would be surprised if the cpu list ends up as restrictive as it appears.

It is causing uncertainty in the second hand pc market.

It concerns me that Microsoft is in CPU-perm-ban-hammer-mode. It's one thing for Microsoft to perm-ban-hammer socket 775 CPUs, and similar with socket 1366, but it's another ball park to perm-ban CPUs for X99 and X299!

The thought of them banning socket 1366 processors like how Microsoft banned 486s, bothers me!

I seriously doubt that a first-gen Core i7 with Windows 11, will be slow like a 486 with Windows 2000, LOL!

Reading the ms bumpf, they seem very keen on the whole tpm thing.

I will take a guess that if the machine meets the tpm and secure boot requirements, and the other minimum specs for cpu speed, etc - it will be ok. Otherwise, there would be a massive amount of redundant equipment.

There is a world of difference between "a perm-ban" or "blocking from installing if XYZ CPU is detected" and

    a non supported CPU

    A world of difference.

Granted, we only have a leaked DEV build, which supposedly, according to M$, will install on any machine.

But whenever M$ says not supported it means "If you get it working and have problems, we ain't helping you."

It's not about "Power" of the CPU but what commands it supports. There are some current CPUs less powerful (read slower) than some CPUs from 4 or 5 generations ago.

I don't quite understand “It works just fine thank you!”. Secure boot is enabled? Or your pc is working fine you won't do a clean install?
My PC works just fine at the moment so I won't do a clean install. :) SB says in the BIOS that's been enabled so I trust on my BIOS' word! It never lied to me! :)
