I did not run the compatibility check on my insider machine yet, but upon checking Update/Windows Insider Program got this message.

Ohhh strange, just saw this at the very bottom of my device list!

Reasons for failed automatic device encryption: TPM is not usable - PCR-7 is not supported, hardware security test interface failed and device is not in Modern Standby, unallowed bus/devices with DMA orders Translated it from DUTCH (Device information, support for device encryption)

@johngalt -- do some other VM systems allow "Emulation of TPM" even if the physical hardware doesn't exist. - Some old MBR systems (although capable of UEFI boot) allow VM's to use UEFI and secure boot even though they have been booted up in MBR / legacy BIOS mode. VMWare seems to be quite flexible in that type of thing. Do older MBR only boot machines have TPM functionality -- if they do probably not 2.0. Just a query so don't spend a lot of time on it !!!

    Cheers

I thought you said they did allow emulation of TPM even without TPM present physically. Did I misread you (on another forum)? Or maybe it was someone else who said it.....

As for GPT and MBR - yes, that does work as well, as the entire secure boot phase is emulated in the hypervisor itself, right? So it goes to reason that the TPM should be emulated as well....but I have no way of (currently) verifying that. I'd have to dig out my old system and put HDs in it and find it a home where I can connect a monitor to it...and I simply don't have that kind of time right now. But it is an interesting theory, nonetheless..

I wonder if I can upgrade Windows 10 to 11 without losing my config and install, games etc..
I don't have $ to build another PC.. and
I hear ya. I spent well over $4000 on my system. If I found out it was not compatible, I'd probably be far beyond upset.

I just finished updating my physical OS Insider 21390.2025 in-place with the Win 11 ISO. Went thru nice and smooth, no install issues. I do notice and like the smoothness of the display rendering. And for the most part I like the new sounds, particularly Startup and Event..... not as harsh.

Did have one minor casualty with an app, but it was kinda expected. Because they moved and played so much with the Start Button and its functions and placement, Open Shell (and I would suspect Classic Shell) are missing some of the Start Button functions. Hover will do nothing. I had to change it to shift-tap to get it to open. Shift-click also does nothing. It's way, way early, so some app casualties are not unexpected. All else seemed to work fine.

Maybe a dumb question but the message that will pop up that your PC can't run Windows 11... is that BEFORE or AFTER the install? My custom-built PC costed me 895€ as far as I can remember..........

I wonder how the PC vendors / stores are looking at this.

Licking their chops that there will be a forced upgrade cycle or worrying what they are going to do with current non compliant inventory ?

Anyone knowledgeable will want to know their potential new device is Windows 11 compatible.

How about all the folks that just bought devices for online learning or working from home.

Yes there will be some very unhappy people.

Tom - did you try pinning the taskbar left justified for either of the shell replacements?

Just a thought - I expect that won't work, but worth a shot....

You can check out the specs in the my computer section. But - yeah. It's bombtastic.

The 'PC Health' app that purports to indicate whether your PC is qualified for Win11 is buggy and broken! So don't worry about it. Yet.
