MS is trying to make Win UI and its ecosystem like Mac & Linux (Unix based), and trying to make unified UI for multi-device! (but it would take much time because of different way they started many years ago to develop Win).

MS is trying hard (!!!.. if you consider an update every year as a hard work!..) to make Win closer to the Mac and Linux but they can't! Why?! Because they are far away and their move is sluggish. MS updates are with delay and bugs (most frustrating things) and MS is in trial mode not certain mode to shift at once!

IMO Mac engineers are like thunder(!). They decide, then apply, then release ASAP. Just see the latest Mac OS update changes. I am struggling to switch to Mac (I didn't like its UI till version Leopard, GREAT UI design, minimal, blurry, flat, simple, and top of the most CLEAN) and most important thing they (Mac's team) don't keep users behind the doors for 1 year to reveal new tiny rubbish updates (with hesitation)!

I only just caught up with the Windows 11 thing. I don't like that reversed Window logo on the screen! It looks - well - reversed - back to front - and in the screen area where people put their icons! I am reluctant to change - it has taken me this long to get to like Windows 10 (a lot). And get over my pangs of grief for XP! I wonder how different it will be.

There will be a Windows 11 and it’s coming this month | T3

I suspect MS will be charging a "fee" to upgrade from Win 10 to Win 11? I hope I'm wrong.

Windows / Linux : Arch Linux

    Hi folks

not always the most reliable read but still interesting from The Verge

Microsoft looks ready to launch Windows 11 - The Verge

There's nothing wrong though IMO for providing future Windows as a "Rolling Release" -- obviously not for their LTSC servers of course.

Rolling releases are nothing new or problematical on Linux --I've used ARCH LINUX for a number of years - you never update the OS via a new release - you just continually update it and its never given me any problems. If you do a clean install you always get the latest version and if you do need to go back to a previous version (I've only needed that once when SAMBA was irretriveably broken - but was fixed very quickly) the archives go back several years - when you go back all the packages are also back levelled for that release.

The current way Windows updates are being rolled out and the total lottery of whether they will even install makes a mockery of what should be a perfect Consumer and Home OS in C21.

    Cheers

Another Blog. They also are in the business of making a profit. Excerpt I found that maybe you are referring to to support your statement.

"How much does it cost? As it's from 10 to 11, it may be a small fee this time"

A Blog. An opinion. The word "may" kinda gives it away.............. anybody can say anything. Old saying....."The devil can quote scripture for his purpose".
