Downloading the UUPDUMP on Fedora. Frankly, I'm just not sure why I should be interested in an operating system whose "upgrades" revolve around changing icons. If anybody has tried Gnome 40 please let me know. End rant.

I can't upgrade to this build. I've tried three times now and it gets stuck for hours at 98% every time.

Downloading to my physical machine. There are some things that have to be done in Windows, for example, Google Chrome Canary is not available for Linux (that I am aware of), and Chrome handles programs like doxyme better than Firefox nightly.1 of the VMs on Linux completed the other two are paused and I will finish them after this puppy is done. BTW Everything is a very good program Edwin so thanks for mentioning it. Bye for now.

    Hi there
I've been an advocate of KDE as a Linux GUI for donkeys years -- try the latest plasma desktop - really good and works !!! - zillions of configurations to choose from including up to 8 Virtual independent monitors - great for multi-monitor systems.. I don't usually have a Linux GUI on things like NAS but on laptops etc it's sensible to have a GUI for normal working plus a Windows VM or two.

Black themes available too -- I don't like those myself but I know loads do - even on Windows.

BTW Edge does work on Linux but I still prefer Firefox both on Linux and Windows (until they hose it up with "Too many new features etc etc") !!

However back to Windows - my view is that these builds should only appear if there's either serious improvements in performance, new hardware support that can't be done via a normal WU or genuine features to be added. One thing I've been wanting for YEARS is for file explorer (or equivalent) to be able to display path/directory and file name combinations > 266 chars. Internally Windows can do it but so many apps that require a "File browsing interface" use the old "file browser api which still restricts to 266 chars). These days with large NAS / HDD's of several TB in size it's quite easy to reach the 255 char limit if you need to give meaningful names to music / video tracks etc.

Path/directory/file names > 266 chars still come up in the old Ms dos 8.3 truncated names !!!!

    Cheers

I was very much into linux at one time. Linux Mandrake with KDE was my favorite. Before I could buy the boxed CDs at Best Buy I would download new builds over a dial-up internet connection. It would take about 3 days. Sometimes longer before I started using a download manager. I switched to Linux because I really hated Windows Vista. It wasn't until I became a tester for Windows 7 that I switched back to Windows. Now I just dabble around with Linux Mint. I can truthfully say that Windows 7 brought me back and Windows 10 is keeping here. I was close to going back to Linux when Windows 8 first came out.
