@dorcom ... .1023 was an Optional Preview CU. Nobody and nothing forced it on you.

The update coming out next Tuesday, 6/08/21, will include most if not all of this one as the standard Patch Tuesday fare. I hope you have better luck with it.

    Cheers.

I typically DO have issues with previews -- which is why I have gone to doing MR backups prior to installing any. But with this one (1023) , I have not had ANY issues -- which is unusual for me.

I have had no problems with this build. It seems very stable and works with all my software.

No issues on 5 PCs so far.

Have you tried checking the Component Store for issues:
You need an active Internet connection.

    dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    sfc /scannow

Stay away from update KB 5003214 if you want to have a piece of mind!

The great despot has again messed up and there is plenty of news about it! Google it! "update KB5003214 problems"
With every update they introduced a few handful, several dozens of new bugs.
The level of incompetence at Microsoft is mind-boggling and reminds me of sci-fi author Asimov and a story about a robot army which lost the war for the nation operating it, because all stopped simultaneously because of the same defect. Must've been running on Windows 10 and an update....
One of these days it's going to happen with all Windows 10 machines probably in another defective update.
I'm really getting tired of this!

I kid you not, just yesterday I was at an airport and again saw several flight arrival and departure displays with Windows 10 error messages!

After applying "2021 05 cumulative update preview for Windows 10 version 21H1 for x64 based systems (KB 5003214)"
It brings the OS build up to 19043.1023 and with that a garden-variety of new problems.

I had nothing but problems thereafter and wasted almost a whole week until I finally realized that it has to do with that so-called "update" KB5003214.

I also found that the machine was very sluggish and not really responsive running rather slow.
I'm not alone. Google: "update KB5003214 problems" and the returns are full of articles about a garden-variety of problems.

Some Services didn't run or were in an eternal "starting" but greyed out so you could not stop them, disable or restarting whatever. Certain apps didn't start or froze. Explorer randomly started to freeze or hang, a small gadget app I use, "System Monitor II" took about 5 minutes after boot to appear, only to run super slow at 1/10 or 1/50 of the original (graph) tact speed if not slower. System tray icons disappearing or overlapping, Etc. etc.

Here just a couple: Windows image acquisition (WIA) service has always been disabled on my system.
After the update applied all of a sudden above-mentioned service tried to start up but remained in the eternal "starting" with all possible controls to stop at or change it grayed out. The same with Windows Search

So today, Saturday, I uninstalled the so-called update which brought me back to OS build 19043.985
    Guess what?
Everything is running swift and fast including startup no hangs, no freezes!
All normal like it used to.

After the downgrade the aforementioned two services worked flawlessly again and I could set them to any which way I wanted to and if I started up the services, they started up within two seconds.
Again these are just two examples of several more!

So why bother with these constant so-called "updates" which just create more problems and introduce more bugs?
The time I wasted trying to resolve this issue I'm not getting compensated for and other work I needed to do remained unfinished on my desk.
I'm surprised any airport would be using Windows 10 for displaying real time flight details --thank goodness Air traffic control doesn't work on it !!!! - "Please wait in Holding Stack - even though you are low on fuel until we have completed important updates !!!! --Sorry the update server has just gone down - we'll get back to you later in the day !

Windows 10 works for all sorts of things but for real time info at airports --- please !!!!!

Not doubting you but the manager of that Airport should really be looking for another job. !!

    Cheers

    Nope.
I was simple and suddenly confronted that updates (I had not asked for or initiated) have been installed and a reboot is required. Kinda "shove down your throat whether you asked for it or not wanted it or needed it".

I don't think dorcom is interested. He just wants MS to go away. By verbal command.
