It worked!! speaker-test command can be used to test. Looks like I'm spending a bit more time in Windows.

At least, MS is aware of it and the fix might not be too far away—I am looking at PT next week.
I'm still trying to understand why some of you got it (the xxxxxx.1030 update) and I didn't...or did I understand you to say that you were *not* in the Insider's program? (Can't recall...)

Should have included this. It really does a good layman's explanation and the method I showed. Easy to understand.

Another great reference. Thx a lot!. The way I see it, the server-side update equates to KIR.

It's a known issue. Ignore it.

Yeah? It sure is weird! Thanks. I would like to know why this popped up, where it came from, and what did it bring with it!

So would MS. They are investigating.

I had a real freak out moment a few minutes ago. Out of curiosity, I opened Windows Security, in Settings, and there was no Windows Defender in Settings. I freaked out so bad I didn't think to screenshot the page, I went into Services and Defender Advanced Threat Protection wasn't running, and I guess it doesn't need to be because I couldn't start the service. But then, I went back to Windows Defender, and there everything was! Weird! I ran sfc scan, and had earlier run MSERT scan. Neither found any issues.
