Upgrade was successful. Apparently this was a snall enough upgrade so that there was no reboot during non GUI part of the process (i.e. went from 2% to login screen with no reboots although it spent quite a few minutes at 74% complete - donwloading in my instance under VMware WS server (ver 15.5). I forgot to downgrade many of the VMs I created in Linux (virtual hardware) but I have all the ISOs. I think I'm going to install Hyper-V again - perhaps there were upgrades to that I hadn't noticed. Cheers all.
I will activate Hypler-V and most of the remaining features (ISS) after the VM reboots because - why not if I will need to spend more time here. Waiting on my notebook repair to "maybe" investigate games - it is newer than this desktop with 64BG RAM (but has an Intel chip, which I dislike).
Anyone else notice Windows startup sound doesn't work in this build ? All other system sounds work fine. Control panel option is checked. Perhaps related to bogus systray end of service notification that many have noticed ?
I haven't seen a build this bad in literally years in the Insider's program--I joined Oct 1, 2014.
21376 installed by turning on HDR even though I had it turned off when downloading and installing the build. When I turned off HDR via Display Properties, I got a black screen which I was unable to correct, and after a number of reboots the system restored 21370.
I decided to give it another spin and try again, and this time I never saw the HDR desktop--I went straight to the black screen. Under Advanced troubleshooting--which was all I could get to come up--I was able to boot successfully into safe mode, which makes me think 21376 has some serious device-driver problems! Efforts to get a visible desktop normally were fruitless, and so this time I went straight to a Macrium Reflect backup and restored the backup of C:\ & accompanying partitions, build 21370, that I had made just before giving 21376 a second try. I now have Updates turned off for several days so as not to be bugged by this horrific build again--wasted enough time on it.
Went to the hub with the info, for all the good it will do.
The Temp fix also involves editing some REG entries I do not have.
