Microsoft reportedly working on new Microsoft Store app for Windows 10

Microsoft is working on a brand-new Store app for Windows 10 that will introduce a modern and fluid user interface, as well as bring changes to the policies that govern what kind of apps can be submitted to the store by developers. According to sources familiar with the matter, this new Store will pave the way to a revitalized storefront that's more open to both end users and developers.

It's fair to say that in the last couple of years, the Microsoft Store app on Windows 10 has fallen by the wayside. The app today is slow, unintuitive, and frankly kind of ugly. It's just not a great app store for users to navigate, but that's all going to change with the new Store that Microsoft is working on.

It should come as no surprise to hear that the new Store app will follow the same design refresh that the rest of Windows is following with Sun Valley, which is expected to ship towards the end of this year. Many in-box apps, including this new Store app, will be reinvigorated with new layouts, WinUI designs, iconography, and fluid animations.

The new Store will continue to be a UWP app, and will be updated on a monthly cadence with new features and improvements over time. It should also provide a more stable download and install experience for large apps and games. Furthermore, in addition to the new storefront, Microsoft is also planning to relax some of the policies around what kind of apps can be submitted to the Store by developers.

According to my sources, there are three big changes coming to the new Store that will benefit developers:

    Hi there
Ms should just give up on "Store" apps -- this wretched thing was only introduced by Apple and Google and is only suitable (IMHO) for "Modern" UI apps -- those more suited to mobile phones or tablets.

I have yet to see ANY store app that I can download from the store that's better than the same app downloaded from the software developers / hardware manufacturers own sites. Usually functionality is missing, stuff is hobbled and it's all full screen - ideal for phones maybe but aren't we are still using proper Computers here. !!!!

Sorry @Brink but on Store Apps I'm sure you are flogging a Dead Horse here as far as Windows is concerned. We've all moved on from the disaster that was Windows 8 !!!.

Even if some apps aren't readily available they can always be Side loaded on Windows.

Time to say -- Ms Store --R.I.P

No need to keep the Store if you don't use Store Apps!

Sadly many organisation have given up on Windows 10 apps and only develop them for Android and the iPhone / iPad.

Not gonna break my heart if they just do away with the dang thing. I hate it, never use it and generally uninstall all their bloat that I can.

    Nuttin' but junk.

I've only used Store apps for two things -- and both of those were in desperation.

First, my (then) new HP All-in-One Printer/scanner/copier, despite numerous executions of HP's diagnostics, and numerous installs/reinstalls of HP software and drivers, could not reliably be seen across my local network. I went to the MS Store, download the HP app -- and it worked! An yes, it was a dumbed-down version with limited features, but it worked!

Now that HP device has failed, I have switched over to Epson all-in-One devices and all of them work with their Epson utilities and drivers without any issues. So, I have removed the HP store app.

In the second case, I have an in-house Plex Media Server and, every once in a while, the Browser connection will either NOT see the server, or if it does, it simply will not work. So, I downloaded and installed the MS Store version of Plex and it always works. But I prefer to use the Browser version -- when it works.

I have looked at other MS Store apps, and like others here have indicated, when there was a "native" version of the app, it always had more functionality than the Store version. So, I do not have any use these days, for the MS Store.
