KB5001330 Windows 10 Insider Beta 19043.928 21H1 and RP 19042.928 20H2 Insider

On my insider 21H1 build 19043.899 the KB5001330 fails with error 0x800f0984, just like KB5000842 failed with the error acknowledged by Microsoft 0x800f081f.. JFWIW

Thanks for the hint and the link, already tried all the other suggestions except for an in_place update ... maybe re-registering everything may help ... never had any problems before, started with KB5000842 ... Strangely enough my much older laptop has no problems at all with the updates. Go figure!

I think the problems came with. 899 update, a lot of people had issues updating from there. An in place upgrade worked for me (. 906) and now. 928 update installed without problems.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade







Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

DISABLE non-Microsoft:
a) antivirus software
b) firewall software
c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect (free)
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

Go here and get the Media Creation Tool and save it to your desktop.

RUN the Media Creation Tool and use it to: Create an ISO image... save IT to your desktop.
This will be the latest version of the ISO image.




Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will look like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.


The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations. Your programs and data will be intact.

They don't hurt, that's true. Not something I want to do regularly though, as it involves a HUGE amount of write cycles on the SSDs. These upgrades do fix most problems.

And now back to business: update failed, just as previous. So maybe they repaired it but obviously not the all defects

Thanks ... although getting astray aka OT ...
I've used the Media Creation Tool on previous occasions but getting an iso that was not compatible with my beta insider build and the options to keep personal data and apps was just greyed out ... so I actually didn't want to use it (2004)
(Irrelevant comment: Although my profile says "junior member" I'm not really junior Windows user LOL! In a dark past I have used Windows version 1.0 ... a very very long time ago, but I appreciate all thinking paths to solve problems!)
