Getting this when I try to install the update:

    KB5000842 CU Windows 10 v2004 build 19041.906 and v20H2 19042.906-image.png

Internet is working fine, everything else is working with no problems. I can connect to everything, just the MS Server problem shown.

I'm having issues connecting to any Microsoft website in Chrome, so may be something on Microsoft's end.

    They're working in Edge though.

I was using Edge when the error occurred.

    It's working now though.

Also downloaded the msu file from WUC and tried to install KB5000842 Stand alone, failed! Will now wait for the April 13 update.

BTW, afterwards I ran DISM online and SFC; both no issues. I noticed last week that the Defrag Scheduled (weekly) Task no longer causes retrim event error 264 (have HDD only), not yet tried to optimize/defrag manually to see if the retrim event error is completely gone....
I got the same error but managed to fix it; it seems like disabling the "app readiness" service might cause that particular failure to show up. Another potential culprit is an incomplete installation of .Net Framework (make sure that all of it is installed under Control Panel->Programs & Features->Optional Components).

My solution turned out to be a combination of full installation of .Net Framework and temporary enablement of the "app readiness" service under Services.msc. The update went smoothly from Update Catalog (did an offline install).

    Hi there
I'm still trying to understand why on a Native machine with these latest W10 builds the performance seems worse than on a VM even though the VM performance isn't that great --it is a mega CPU hog even if nothing happening on the VM. -- I suspect there's loads of debugging / logging info built into some of these builds for Ms to analyze. Probably the paravirtualised hardware when using a VM doesn't have those "hooks" for the debugging info to get into and slow down the system on real hardware.

Earlier W10 builds were all reasonably OK both real and Virtual so this seems a relatively recent development. I haven't done any upgrades etc to the HOST system either.

I can understand all sorts of "test" things Ms is using in these builds but if any of you can trial W2K16/W2K19/W2K22 servers you can see immediately difference (significant) in performance -- even more if you hobble around with these servers and use them as "Desktop workstations".

Hopefully Ms will address this problem as we get towards RTM for the next "general consumer" roll out.

I haven't tried W10 LTS enterprise so I can't comment on that - but if anybody is running that version how does it compare performance wise to current consumer versions. - I'm not interested in gaming - I do use photoshop and both audio and video editing though. Otherwise I run pretty welll typical "Officy" things on Windows. Nothing eseoteric at all.

    Here's the difference

Two identical processes running as VM's on W2K19 server and W10 Pro. W10 Pro is just hogging as much of the CPU as it can get --doing what exactly !!!! while the W2K19 server is almost quiesced -- doing the same task.

I'm running these on a Dual processor XEON system with plenty of RAM so the VM's have been allocated the same resources.

Anybody --What gives !!!! W10 shouldn't be hopelessely outclassed by a server which presumably is running a similar kernel. Host is "idling" so nothing on Host is influencing performance differently to the VM's - and I'm the only User on the server VM.

    @jimbo45
    Good question
Maybe we need this in the VM threads.
I believe you've already tweaked the settings in virt-manager to the max.

But I noticed this on virt-manager as well on Win10. I haven't tested WS2019 yet.
The difference was noticeable between Hyper-V and KVM. The first one behaved well, no cpu usage while the second one did spiked and remain high for long periods.

Have you looked at Task Manager in the VM?
If there is no svchost.exe consuming stuff for updates / telemetry, do you see some of the virtio / qemu guest exes running? I noticed the vm balloon service had an impact on the cpu as well.

    EDIT: I'm running stable virtio-win drivers on W10 1809 old-timer VM.
The baloon and services are fine.
It's just that on every boot you have a sequence of checks like svchost / updates followed by w defender and a WaasMedic sevice... I might be out of date here but example stands: the VM is slow (long) after boot. I don't know if it's the same on Server edition but I believe not: services are prioritized differently than on consumer level Windows.

After a couple of minutes it calms down.

I have tried several times to install this update. No luck. Just always get the message in attached.

EDIT: Sorry, just noticed that this was already posted about above.
