Fedora, and most modern Linux OS's, give testers the ability to download code without elaborate hardware detection (essentially non-debug versions of the kernel). VMware gives testers the option of by-passing their debugging code for performance reasons - although they are not happy about it. Microsoft should do the same if, as jimbo45 suggests, this is the reason for the slowdown. I mean, they pretty much have complete control over my physical (and VM) instances - they could allow me to experience and test with the RTM version will be like. Actually, speaking of that does anybody know (Brink maybe?) whether we are working on 21R1 or have they already ditched that nomenclature. Wish there would be more communication from the Insider team but I'm not expecting it. Guess we'll get new emojis next week or redesigns of the Trash bin icon.
    Hi there
You can get a good idea of start up boot delay caused by hardware detection if you say boot up a live distro of Fedora (or any other one) -- by its very nature a Live distro has to do a lot of hardware and environmental checks and builds because it could be running on any bit of conceivable hardware and then compare that with an installed version which is built for the machine its running on.

Nobody complains if the W10 install with these new systems need to trial out things and therefore take a bit longer to install but with the 21H1 version approaching RP / RTM one would hope to be seeing the sort of performance levels that one would expect in daily use.

At this type of performance I'm sure people might be looking at alternatives !!!!.

I still fail to see why decent performance can't be more akin to the Servers which do surprisingly well even if you install all sorts of "Non Enterprise" type applications on them e.g Games etc.

I'm not sure though if how these would work with some of the really "Extreme" GPU's that dedicated gamers often use (if at all) -- would be nice if a Gamer could try out a server as a home desktop and compare it with the Windows version.

As I tend only to use basic Office, photoshop and multi-media editing on W10 it's no bother for me to re-install these every 180 days on a "Server trial / Preview" version if W10 doesn't start improving.

    Cheers
