So far, manually downloading and installing the MSU linked in the first post is working to install KB5001649.![]()
You can paste this into notepad and save it as a .bat file:
Code:@echo off powershell -windowstyle hidden -command "Start-Process cmd -ArgumentList '/s,/c,net stop usosvc & net stop wuauserv & del %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\Logs\edb.log & del /f /q C:\ProgramData\USOPrivate\UpdateStore\* & net start usosvc & net start wuauserv & UsoClient.exe RefreshSettings' -Verb runAs"
A fair warning is that it will erase all the Windows Update History not just the failed entry you want to get rid of.
Good News: MS has 'fixed' WU....
Sounds like someone just hasn’t parked it in the right space on the server. They cannot be unaware of the botch yet. Twitter is pretty vocal over this error over on the windows update channel/Twitter feed
Bad News: You'd have though it's just a matter of putting the files up on the server. No, the 'fix' for now is to stop offering it through WU.
Earlier:
But check for updates now and you get....

At least they’ve removed it now. Guess it will be re offered later. I just love the way Redmond dropped this on the world and then ambled off to bed. Only know they realise their error and remove it from WU.
