The chances of Conexant caring about their older chips enough to patch their drivers are...very low. Let this become a reminder to not to buy devices with Conexant audio. I have a laptop in the same limbo because of them.
Since this has been a known issue for over a year, I'd say the chances are zero.

In their documentation for known issues in 2004 and 20H2, MS say they are working on a fix for both the known issues that relate to conexant audio drivers. So my hope was that MS themselves would change something in their next big release (i.e. 21H1), so that the old conexant audio drivers wouldn't be the problem that they are now when upgrading to 2004/20H2. I wasn't holding my breath for that I must admit....

I've seen that too, and it's a typically broad statement which probably means they're sitting with their thumbs up their backsides waiting for Conexant to fix their drivers. We don't know the exact techical reason why the drivers are incompatible, but it is likely security related. So Microsoft compromising Windows security because of driver incompatibility is not going to happen, that's for sure.

Am I correct in thinking it's likely safe to jump the gun and install this on machines currently running 20H2? Not that I'm expecting to see any noticeable difference between 19042.906 and 19043.906.

    Hi folks
If it runs as slow as molasses as has been the case for some of the recent insider builds then I'd be wary of bringing this to production status. But who knows how Ms works these days. !!!!

I downloaded KB5000736 and ran it on 2 desktops and a laptop with 20H2. It unlocked 21H1 settings, etc., that were already present. No slowdowns or other problems so far. I can't even see any difference between 20H2 and 21H1 other than the info that running winver reports.

    Hi there
Good news if it does "what it says on the tin". I understand that "test builds" might have all sorts of things in them for debugging etc but a "ready to ship commercial " version should have (hopefully) all that extra stuff removed.

    Cheers

When is this likely to get a general release?

MS doesn't usually say beforehand. But since it's already locked away in up-to-date 20H2 systems, I decided to go ahead with it on my non-Insider machines.

    OK, I'll bite -

Commercial pre-release validation? = You are the beta tester.

    Does it resolve this issue?

Interesting quirk with Start -> Apps listing of Microsoft Edge
