40 Minutes ago, windows update said "installing 100%" Now it saying "installing 17%" this has been like it now for almost 45 minutes.
It went to 100% on the Servicing Stack Update (KB5000858) and then went to install the main update (KB5000802).

As for my update, if anything slowed things down, it was the wait in-between the SSU and the update for the system to decide "nah, we'll skip creating a restore point".

So, don't install the update if you're in a hurry or don't have the time?

Now benchmarked three different computers on 19042.867. 1 stationary and two laptops. All of them ~8-10% worse performance after this update.
    Security costs...
This is the first Windows update to ever keep me from navigating Tenforums.com by pressing the little page numbers at the top and bottom of each page in this thread.

I hovered over them, and the pointer didn't indicate the numbers were clickable. When I clicked page "2" or "3", etc., nothing happened.

Had to restart this laptop twice to make the page numbers clickable. Now, we're good to go!

Downloaded and installed KB5000802. Running fine now at 19042.867.

I will add that like the last CU mine hesitated for a while maybe 10-15 minutes at 22% then a small wait at 74%, but I could see drive activity so I just let it take it time.

I noticed a stall at 22% too on a second PC I just updated - fortunately it wasn't 15 minutes in my case - seemed too long, like 5 minutes vs some people saying this thing installed "fast".

It didn't feel fast on two i7/16 GB RAM/SSD PCs I've updated today.

I am really tired of Windows now, the joke is no longer funny, I thought we were supposed to enjoy computing? Not having a machine that rules our life and causes stress every month.

Time to get Apple product, me thinks.
Your machine maybe quite old or on mechanical HDD?

These stalls - one thing they may be be is the malicious software removal tool doing a scan of your system (I am pretty sure it gets downloaded then a scan is initiated). This would explain the difference in this stall time - dependent on your storage device performance. This update included a MSRT update so I think this is very probably the cause.

Download and install went effortlessly. SFC and DISM reported no problems.

What happens if I were to install the updates, but don't actually install them and just select the shut down instead of shut down? Will they eventually install by themselves?

People might want to keep in mind that you're not supposed to be babysitting these things. The whole premise of the Windows Update model is that it happens in the background. Don't worry about it. It will complete. If it seems to stall here or there, don't worry about it. Ideally, you don't know or care.

I mean, those of us (myself very much included) here punch the 'check for updates' button at 1:00 ET sharp on the 2nd Tuesday of every month, and then watch the progress. But WU checks roughly every 24 hours without any intervention, and it really does seem to work on that level. My GF has 2 computers with Win 10, and she NEVER checks for update (she's not what MS calls a 'seeker'). Both her machines are at the latest build all the time. Depending on when her WU checks, that might not be until tomorrow, but holy moly, what's the big hurry? Honestly. It's not like you are prevented from using your computer while it's doing whatever it's doing at 22% or what have you.

If you do nothing, never 'check for updates', you will be fine. In fact, you will never know or care about updates. You will be fine. But in today's culture, we are all just burning to be outraged. And we have this urge to 'do something'.

As a 40-plus-year professional and hobbyist with what we used to call 'microcomputers' (before there were 'PC's'), I understand this urge, believe me! But we aren't the demographic here. I have surely done my share of kvetching about MS here, but maybe just let it happen on its own? Again, what's the rush?

But then, what would we talk about if we just let it work by itself...
