    @waltc,
    Still would be nice to know which drivers area failing, given that not everybody with a Realtek Ethernet has this problem.
    No driver from RealTek or Microsoft that I have installed manually through the Device Manager has failed. I'd love to be able to narrow this down to a specific driver, but I can't. Looks like it's a Windows install bug of some kind. The same drivers fail when automatically installed--or lose the Gateway regularly when installed with the Troubleshooter--but don't do either when manually installed through the Device Manager--and stay up permanently.

    I'm using 10.39.212.2020 RealTek now, which is an old driver, but as I mentioned--doesn't matter what driver I choose the outcome is the same--they do not stay up unless manually installed through the DM. I have no idea why...this seems a fairly widespread problem. I'm glad you don't have it with your 2.5GB NIC!

    Gigabyte's H81M Onboard realtek NIC seems to be affected. Manually installing the driver DID help. And that is NOT EVEN INSIDER! That is a stable rig!

    This is a 2015 driver and I was able to pull an identification string that actually suits many NIC controllers:
    rt640x64.sys

    Now this baby needs manual installing. Thanks for the tip
    This build is pretty stable--I don't really have stability problems with these Insider builds...I don't know what's going on--have no idea. It's weird. Going through the DM it works every time--with each new build, because with each new build the driver begins disconnecting... Manual install of the *same driver* through the DM fixes the problem until the next build--then rinse and repeat...

    Hi, Walt.

    Luckily, I don't seem to have the problems you've described; however, I'm not sure which NIC I'm using, since I'm sorely lacking in knowledge of networking.

    How do I figure out which I have?
    Open up the DM and look at the network adapter--if you don't have the problem then none of this applies! However, I did notice that you are using a wireless adaptor, and that we have different NICs, whereas I am using a new 2.5GB Reatek NIC and am strictly wired. I don't do wireless or BT.

    EDIT: Since I see that we're all doing "I'll show you mine if you show me yours"...Here's what mine looks like...:)

    Version update on dev 21327.1000 has no problem on downloading, and installing, but the bug i found was opening the
    control panel and choosing system nothing happens. It flashes one time and never opens what matter you do. It started from version 213xx on which half language was Greek and the other half English. Installations and updates i get is in Greek.
    In previous version system restore and restore points were missing, or did no see any drives. Now control panel\system is not working at all. Please fix it.. Thank you..

    Yes waltc I have a problem with my Realtek controller and am totally Ethernet on this computer — no other computer has the problem. For me, it forgets it’s connected with internet until I do a troubleshoot and it ‘fixes’ the connection. I have had this problem several iterations ago in 2017 on the predicessor to DEV channel. I have other builds on this computer — beta, release preview, and windows 8.1 pro. None of them have a problem with connectivity. I have saved my Realtek driver from 2017 so guess I’ll have to apply it if the new 2021 driver keeps this up.

    An update that does nothing but it still force a reboot!

    I know that is as annoying as it may be, but this is intentional. They are testing their servicing pipeline, which means they want to know how quickly updates are applied. Which, you know, means how quickly people reboot their machine after it is done.

    However, I fully agree with you on that this measurement could actually be done without a reboot. It should be implemented with a simple counter that would track the time between the moment the update is "ready for restart" until the machine is eventually restarted, or even until the user would eventually click a pseudo-reboot button, which - just like the update - wouldn't do anything actual.

    But then again, they are not there yet. I would be ready for an upvote though, on feedback hub, if you were to raise this issue, which as a fact, is quite annoying to ask for a reboot for a placebo update.

    @waltc,

    Still I would like to see the driver date and version when it fails, not just the one that works...

    When I would run the troubleshooter it would fix it for a while, and then it would lose the Gateway...;) So it was getting me both ways.

    OK, I just installed the 10.47.121.2021 RealTek LAN drivers using the RealTek exe...right after I finished the 21327.1010 CU a few minutes ago...and...for the first time, in a couple of months, the LAN driver seems to be holding without a manual DM install!

    So....did Microsoft sneak in a fix in the CU to address the RealTek NIC problems, or did RealTek change/fix something, or am I losing it and none of us is really here?....;)

    ....Usually, an auto-installed NIC driver would have disconnected by now...but this one hasn't. I'll watch it and come back if I find a manual install is necessary for stability. Ah, bugs...such wonderful things...;) This driver asked me if I wanted a repair...I assented...and it installed only one new file--the newer driver file overwriting the other one I listed in a post above. Still holding the connection...hasn't lost the Gateway, either

    But Magilla, you said you're having problems with the driver I just installed which seems to be working here, finally...? Very strange problem all around.

    That's just it--they were all failing unless I installed them manually, in which case none of them failed--that's the only reason I ever installed them manually to begin with--they were all dropping the connection and/or losting the Gateway, repetitively when auto-installed by Windows.

    However, see my post above to Magilla...now it seems the driver that is giving him fits is working for me--for the first time in a couple of months that a RealTek driver has installed automatically from the exe and stayed up for more than a few minutes before dropping off.

    It's nuts....
