Microsoft does not "owe" anybody. We chose to buy Windows 8, heck some of us chose to buy Vista!!
Nobody was forced to buy Windows 8!

I also hope that Microsoft waits 'till April to release Windows 9. I don't want any bugs in my brand new OS!

Please don't get me wrong Bunny I just don't get why it wouldn't be fair. If someone decided to buy a computer for Christmas (four four to five months before the release of the next Windows OS what gives them the right to get a free copy of the next OS. They made the decision to buy early thus they should live with that decision. Again why is it people think that Microsoft owes people something just because they buy a product that contains a Microsoft OS.

I would think that a computer MFG would supply the free upgrade and not MS.
Why?? To get more sales around the holiday. I would more likely buy a PC during the
holiday if I knew that I would get an upgrade to Win9 when it does come out.
Just my 2c.

Incentives are what drives a lot of sales. Vendors (not Microsoft) offering a free or reduced price OS upgrade would probably help holiday sales.
Apple gave free OS upgrades on the iPhone and iPad's from iOS6 to iOS7. But, Apple is both the hardware vendor and software vendor.

I'll bet if the upcoming Windows 9 preview turns out to be the "cat's meow", at least a few of the computer vendors will offer a free upgrade during the holidays to help boost sales.
