I'd assume KB4598481 is there as a prerequisite for KB5000911.
Maybe...MS is introducing new ways of doing things. Who knows!!!

Installed quickly. SFC no issues --DISM needed component store cleanup. Everything seems to be okay.

    • Addresses an issue that might prevent a Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) device from entering the proper power state.
Interesting. I wonder if this will lead to any improvement in storage performance.

Oh Snugglebugs! What was Windows doing at 22%?! Took AGES till it jumped further... (Like half an hour or something...) Had the feeling my PC hang on that part... (OK, 74% too a bit but that wasn't as EXTREME as 22%)

Anyways, I pushed on and fully updated by now. Hopefully this theater won't repeat itself on Patch Tuesday.

Looks good here with DISM & SFC nice and clean. And finally, DISM which has been stuck at ver. 746 is now at ver. 844.

Another weird experience happened to me today.

Earlier this morning, I checked for updates on my production machine on 20H2 and got nothing. Later on, I rechecked for updates and I got three updates:
    -KB4601554 for .Net Framework
    -Security Intelligence Update
    -KB4601382 CU in optional Update

I clicked on "Download & Install for the CU one. All three were downloading, but the first two finished their task (downloaded and installed) while the third one KB4601382 was still in the downloading phase. At 63% progress, a flyout notification just above the system tray asked me to restart, which I found really strange since the downloading had not finished yet, let alone installing. I took it for granted that MS knows what they are doing and clicked on "Restart".

After the reboot, I went to the Windows Update window to realize that I could not click on anything in that window—kind of frozen. I rebooted again and got back to that same window and could check for Updates this time around. KB4601382 was not installed. As a matter of fact, I could click On Download & Install. As @RingTailCoon explained it was kind of stuck for about half an hour at 22% but astonishingly enough, went along afterwards to installing.

My main problem was why MS asked me to "Restart" while there was still a download in progress. Never seen it before.

    I've seen that before.
I always now ignore the restart prompt until all the displayed updates have finished what they're doing.

I had exactly the same experience, and I thought for sure I'd end up with a "failure", but... it worked. .

My flash player removal update was on the 16th, though. . . .
