I did open Edge a long time ago and let it finish setup so it would stop bugging me Yeah, it's annoying how aggressive M$ was about Edge.
    Steve:
I've never deliberately used Edge & I vaguely recall having an update where it wanted to set itself up. I seem to recall that I didn't & Edge never "nags" me. I notice that when I use Cortana & the answer is on the web, it uses Bing search engine, but doesn't pull up Edge. I just asked for a weather report & it opened a tab on Google Chrome.

Microsoft is pushing Edge so aggressively now because soon it will be the only browser you can run on Windows,

I doubt that MS can limit Windows to use only Edge. There was an anti-trust lawsuit several years ago when they claimed that you had to use Internet Explorer because it was an integral part of Windows.

    phrab,
I never used it either, but seem to recall that it wanted me to do some sort of setup or consider using it - to which I said no.

Limiting what 3rd party apps can be used would be a major handicap, true. But they can still make using them very uncomfortable, if they wanted. Windows 10 is already showing signs of them not being afraid to use dirty tricks known as social engineering and dark patterns, to achieve dominance over competitors and railroading usage.

Speaking of that, that banner on my Settings got a new addition with 20H2, an item that let's me know that my internet/network settings are not set the way MS wants them, namely that Edge and Bing aren't set as defaults

I too spotted this issue. Chromium Edge would hang then close. Unable to open again. Also, certain programs would not open at all. The only fix for me is to roll back. But it keeps installing again causing me to roll back each time to fix it. This is all related to the patch KB4601319
You don't have to go through that ordeal by rolling back every time windows reinstalls the update. You can either pause the update or disable Automatic installation of Windows Updates until you are ready to install it yourself with a system image backup taken beforehand.

    Windows 20H2 Im confused

Can Someone please help me out. I have Windows 10 pro and am part of the Insider Dev channel. I have version 2004 installed. I was wondering if I can update somehow to 20H2? But, according to all post on this forum i see i dont see anything directly for my question here is why. Another question this post says i can update from 2004 build 190..whatever to 21H1 190..whatever. But My 2004 version is Build 21313.rs_prerelease.210209-1440 so to me looking at my build im on 21313 but this 21H1 is only 190..whatever..so Is my version of windows the Absolute newest altogether? or is this version 21H1 build 190...the latest version of windows? If the version and build shown in this post is the newest then do I just follow what this post says? or..? I want to upgrade if I can but Also WITHOUT losing my installed apps files folders etc..any help please is beyond appreciated. Thank you

P.S. I do not see any update for this through my windows settings update section..I even switched to the Beta Channel, cleared my SoftwareDistribution folder yaddie yah rebooted etc nothing shows..I read somewhere this update would be offered if on the Insider Beta Channel?

Did you run: winver and see what build you are actually on? That would help you see what you are on. It (21h1)is offered if you are on beta channel but there are some specific steps to follow to get to this build. Good luck.

I have half a dozen laptops of varying vintage, all on 20H2 and all bar one are set to sleep when I close the lid. They still go to sleep after this 19042.804 update was installed.

You need a compatible video driver to be able to use sleep. The one that cannot sleep has no suitable driver, it has to use the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter which doesn't support sleep. That one is set to hibernate when I close the lid.
