Well... here we go then. I've made a backup and my life is boring so let's see what excitement this update brings.

Thank you sir. I may regret this but so be it.

The installation stalls at 20% for some time then again at 73-74%. None the less it installed fine and SFC found no errors.

That apparent stall is normal, both of them. It really is doing quite a bit of I/O and CPU when it appears "stuck". Next time, have your Taskmanager running also in the Processes Tab. You'll be able to see all the activity. Split-screen Taskmanager and the Update with Windows Key and <> keys.

The key was that you made the backup first . No regrets if you have a full backup that you are able to recover from. I just don't want to waste the time on all that, personally.

Since you said it installed fine, that's great.

Did you also try dism with /checkhealth after sfc?

I just got finished reading all the "what this does" list, and saw this...

We fixed an issue that incorrectly logs Extensible Storage Engine Technology (ESENT) event 642 in the Application Event Log.

Thank you Ghot. This is an error many have been annoyed by and will be grateful to no longer see in the Event Viewer. . I recently saw that M$ was just going to suppress the error - here it is.

Well, I just made a backup and did the .782...

    KB4598291 CU Windows 10 v2004 build 19041.789 and v20H2 19042.789-image1.png

Next, I'll clear my Event Viewer and reboot and see about the ESENT error.

Well... I don't see the ESENT 642 warning, but I'll keep checking for a while since I don't remember what tosses that error anyhow.

Note: Disk Cleanup still doesn't offer to cleanup after Windows Updates anymore, but running...
    Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup ...from an elevated command prompt...

    ...seems to work just fine.
