I had mistakenly posted some problems with getting KB4586876 from your download link in the wrong forum & it was suggested that I copy the relevant posts here to continue the discussion here.

However, it seems that some of that discussion is moot. To summarize, KB4586876 doesn't show up in installed updates & was never offered to me. When I click the link that you've posted above (using Google Chrome Version 87.0.4280.141 (Official Build) (64-bit)) for Download KB4586876 MSU for Windows 10 v2004 and 20H2 64-bit (x64) - 64.6 MB (http://download.windowsupdate.com/d/...96fc032739.msu)
    nothing seems to happen.

I then right clicked your link & chose "Open link in new window" & it downloaded. So I now have the msu file. Not sure why it didn't download directly from your link. Perhaps there's a problem with Chrome itself. I just copied the above link to a textfile in Metapad & then clicked on it. It downloaded the file again. I'll have to see what's wrong with Chrome.

    phrab,

I'm not sure exactly where you are looking for update lists. Are you saying that it does not get listed here -
    Try3 said:
The most comprehensive list of updates is always that in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features, View installed updates. The others suffer from Windows weeding processes - in Settings, Updates it only shows those updates it is capable of removing.

I don't know how you check for updates.
Why do you think you need KB4586876?
Does Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features, Turn Windows features on or off show .Net as being used [filled checkbox]?

Correct. I don't know if it's needed except @Brink said I would need it if I was still on Windows version 2004, which I am. I did follow your advice & went to view installed updates from the control panel. It is not listed.

    Hey mate,

You can install KB4586876 if it's not already installed whether you have v2004 or v20H2.

If you wanted to go from v2004 to v20H2, you would need to install the KB4562830 Enablement Package. Of course you would also want to install the latest KB4598242 update.

I found that exchange of posts very confusing at the time [the mixed cross-references to CUs & .Net updates].

Unless something on your computer is telling you that the update is needed then you do not need it.

Thanks! I'll stick with v2004 for the time being, but I'll install KB4586876, after I do a backup.
