You said before, that you had a MR backup. Might wanna try the update again... maybe you just got a bad download?

/edit Maybe try running sfc /scannow before and after the update?
Will do. Will try the update again soon.

Might want to temporarily disable OS Armor as well.

I notice it "protects" a lot of Microsoft things. Maybe you're getting a conflict?

On one machine I am getting 0x80073701 error, another a 0x8007000d error, SFC found some dlls on both, DISM found nothing, after reboots from the SFC repair they both still fail. One machine installed just fine without issue

Try this. I have to reset this key at times.
    a. Go to start and type regedit.exe.
    b. Navigate to the following registry key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
    c. Locate the NoDriveTypeAutoRun registry entry on the right pane.
    d. Set NoDriveTypeAutoRun to default value as set by Windows, which is 0×00000091 (hexadecimal) or 145 (decimal).
Thanks for the tip. The key is already set as you described. Guess I'll remove the CU as this is causing me not to be able to use my USB drives for system images.

Update: Removed CU KB4598242 and have the two front USB ports back. I just love technology. Thanks MS.
