I have received the same notice twice. As far as I know, I have left the Insider Program more than a year ago, but I use it in a Hyper-V VM with downloads from UUPDump. Put another way, I am an unofficial Insider.

For now, there seems to be no way to leave the program or prevent MS from moving me back to it. After January 12, 2021, I will probably try to leave it again.

I am confused. I know about dev changes. But I have received nothing about staying on beta or release preview. I have 5 computers on release preview and two on beta. Nothing I have seen indicates I need to download a new windows 10 to stay on these builds? Anyone have an idea or info regarding this? @brink? @f14tomcat ?

I think that the current Dev build fe_release will be released to the Beta channel soon as that will become 21H1 release in the spring. The Dev Channel will continue with the rs_prerelease working towards 21H2.

    Simple answer.....

The notice is just a reminder of things already posted before by MS.

The people who installed fe 20279 before Christmas will be moved back to RS on Jan 21st, thereabouts. So then all will be on RS something, just like before. If you went to RS 21277 before Christmas, there's nothing for you to do. In fact there's nothing for anybody to do. It's just gonna happen.

Quote from the Fe 20279 announcement:

Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 20279 (FE_RELEASE) to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel. This build is largely the same as Build 20277, but we wanted to test our ability to quickly follow-up a flight with another flight.

Windows Insiders who updated to Build 21277 (RS_PRERELEASE) last week will not be offered this build as they are on a newer build. We are working on getting a new build out to those Insiders soon. We expect to move all Insiders in the Dev Channel back to receiving builds from RS_PRERELEASE sometime after the holidays.

Not necessarily so. MS stated that fe builds are not in any particular branch.. Just new builds with some new attempts. They may become beta, or not. Think rs_prerelease will become beta at certain stage

Lol "Simple" at MS sounds like physics theory of everything.
