Finally...The way I needed to do it. I used Ztruker .bat file and it brought me back to 19041.508. Then went to TechBench (MS) and .630 has been pulled. Found it on UUP, downloaded it, installed in place, save all apps, files and settings. That brought me up to .630 and then the final test. WU, it worked, finally at 20H2,19042.685. Thought I was going to be stuck on .661 forever but this worked for me and didn't lose a thing. Settings stayed in place as well. Hooray! Hope everyone else stuck with this problem finds equal success.

Excellent news @sneekez, I am glad that you managed to get it to work at last.

Glad it worked for you @sneekez!

I'm nearly there I hope, now back on 20H2 19042.572 after the in-place update.
Any advice anyone on installing KB4592438?
Offline Windows Update installer file, or online Windows Update?
Which is safer to try first?

If I was you, I would make a System Image FIRST, before you do anything. If you need advice on how to do this then please let us know and we will provide the necessary information and method.

Then, you could actually try BOTH ways because you have your System Image to fall back on if it doesn't work! A win, win, situation.

    Just a thought.

    I hope this helps.

Windows Update worked for me. Took 10 minutes to download, install and restart (but that is on an i7 with SSD).

    Very wise words!
I have a system image from before all this happened, but it's a month old.
I will make a new one now, but it will take more hours I'm afraid as it's a very underpowered netbook, and I will have to do it onto an external backup drive via a USB connection!
I'll come back when it's done (probably tomorrow!)

I would say it is worth giving a big at @Bree for his clear explanation in post # 275. I am sure that would help other members with the same issue.

That System Image has the problems you were having in it, which I am sure that you do not want back!

@DaveH1 I used WU, wanted to try that first since that should be the way CU's are applied imo...it worked flawlessly Dave. HTH...

I totally agree. Unfortunately, because this is in the Windows 10 News Forum, there is no way to award a REP to those that have helped. You can however, find another post by the member that helped by clicking on the members name and selecting View Forum Posts, then pick a post and award a REP that way.

    I hope this helps.
