Look at post #233 thru #237. I think you need .662 first, then it should work.
Just unfortunately my 661 won't go to 662, so that I was thinking to make a try.

I haven't heard anybody say, but would do a system backup and then try it if nothing else worked.
I was hoping new CU of next Tuesday.

You can always start the in-place-upgrade and back out/cancel/abort if you don't get the option the option to keep apps and files. Make a backup first: Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

Don't think there will be anymore updates this month due to the holidays.

I think if you uninstall the 20H2 enablement package first to go to 19041.661 then you can do a repair install and keep your apps & data.

What about if you didn't get to 20H2 via Enablement case? Some went 19xx or Windows 7,etc to 20H2.

It's all become a distant blur for me

Do you recall if 661 allowed in-place-upgrade for 20H2 and 662 was just for those who could not install 661?

    I can't recall.

I think 662 fixed the upgrade problem.

After the DEC 8 .685 version repeatedly download and unsuccessfully installed I figured The ISO download with the Media Creation tool might have received a correction plus there is the place where before committing to the re-install one can back off. So I did a Macrium Reflect backup image before mounting the downloaded ISO. This creates the pretend cd drive and setup.exe can be run. The choices to keep apps and settings was there and my install went very well. All apps and settings were in place PLUS that Dec 8 Patch installed so I am at the v.685 since any updates after 661 download. I didn't see the choose spot to refrain with updates. It was a fairly lengthy time where the downloading updates message sat on the screen. I do not have a log in structure on this desktop and that stayed in place. All of this takes an amount of time so if its a fast download speed the event should go faster than mine on a slow download. I used the disk cleanup afterwards.
