I'm going to stay with 8.1 for a while but as far as the privacy/intrusion part, I would say get used to it. Appears to be the way society is headed. Everything about you, likes/dislikes, family history, what you buy at the grocery store, on and on, will be stored in the cloud. What do you think is being done with all the data being collected via those store membership cards? Heck, look at all the very personal information people willingly post on Facebook, Twitter, etc. I honestly think what MS is doing with 10 is only the tip of a very big iceberg.

I did the Windows update Group Policy Edit. Now I get a notification saying "You need some updates" "Select this message to install". Clicking the notification opens Windows update showing the update(s) and a Download button. So far its just been Defender Definition updates listed. It looks like one side effect from doing this is Defender will not update automatically. I click download and it downloads an installs. I don't know what happens if there are multiple updates, and whether you can pick and chose what ones get installed. Off topic I know, but somebody already mentioned/asked about in this thread.

I think that was me. That sounds good but still doesn't allow to set a particular time for downloads. I have extra data allowance during vampire hours and in previous versions could schedule time through BITS if need be. Still wonder about non-Defender updates also.

It's not just the updates, they can 'upgrade' the OS at any time too. Which means add, change or remove features. You may like it now but what about years down the line ?

Windows 10 has still to win me over completely.
We need more control over the UI, like we had in Windows 7, drivers need to catch up for Windows 10. More control over updates and how and when they are delivered.
I want to feel more that Windows 10 is tailored to suit a PC/Laptop and not a Pad/Phone. Apple did not make that mistake, they realised that a UI for iPad/iPhone would not be good for a Mac/Laptop, hence IOS and Yosemite.
Agreed , i hate the whole phone , tablet , games thing as well , horrible.

Well if i owned a smartphone , tablet or gaming system it might be OK but all the privacy issues are a big downer that is hard to wrap your head around .

I think youngsters will like it more than the older generation folks , youngsters usually want everyone to know everything about their lives , i like to keep my life my business .

I wholeheartedly agree with that statement.

I venture to say there will come a day when these youngsters are no longer youngsters and they will deeply regret the loss of the privacy they so willingly gave away.

To me, Privacy and Freedom are intrinsically linked.

To me as well and i bet to a lot of others. I also think the less things that strangers know about me the less problems i will run into .

I'm kind of a loner though and pretty much stay to myself so no wonder. I'm not anti social by any means but i have learned the more people you involve yourself with the more headaches seem to pop up.

    Hi popeye,
I have tried it but I get this(snip) and still can not be changed, I will leave it a day or two and see how it goes.
    Attachment 33482
Mine worked... Win 10 Pro over 8.1.1 Pro.

Insider builds need attention because I'm not signed-in with my MS account at present.
