I didn't get this today but it's not really a surprise since my last version of KB4023057 downloaded/installed last Wednesday and it wasn't like it had some sort of fatal error because I can't figure out if it really does much more than a scan every few days

So anyone know what's with this KB ?

I just got it today but it installed in a few seconds and it didn't even tell me to restart my PC.

You need it as long as you want an upgrade to take place automatically without your consent.
    Are you serious ?

So without this update the regular feature version upgrade wouldn't have installed automatically when the version that a user is using is about to hit end of life ?

It is also offered directly to Windows Update Client for some devices that have not installed the most recent updates.
My understanding is that "the most recent updates" include an upgrade.

Beta already had the Upgrade to 21H1. "the most recent updates" include that upgrade to RP (Release Preview). Not for RTM yet, in "the most recent updates".

    RTM:

It is hard to say for sure because M$ would conceivably have tried their best to force an upgrade. A user may consider using the batch script under option four in the following tutorial:

    To force an upgrade ?

Wait let me get this straight... when said version that a user is using, be it 1903, 1909, 2004 etc. is approaching end of life as in the last 1-2 days, isn't that when the newest version is automatically downloaded through WU ?

I mean that's how it was for me when i'm guessing 1903 was nearing end of life the WU automatically downloaded and installed 2004 on my PC. Now i'm waiting for 2004 to approach end of life so that 20H2 or whichever version will be will get downloaded and installed automatically through WU.

Isn't that how it's supposed to work ?
