Never ever used a vpn, it's also a new desktop. Device manager was clean before update so definitely a result of it. Rebooted after uninstalling and they're still gone so seems all good, just curious why they would appear right after update.

Finally, so many phantom devices happen if you have a full alphabets worth of external drives hooked up where eventually something would refuse to redetect again, hopefully they finally fixed this. And yes I had more than one real usb controller to divide the load.

There was a .NET update issued at the same time. That too can require a restart. I had just the one restart, but I made sure I waited for both to finish installing and ask for a restart before doing so.
My experience and process also on 3 Desktops and 4 Notebooks.

Don't know. As I said, I've never ever experienced what have on any of my two desktops. And they have different hardware and are different OS's. One being Windows 10 Education, the other Windows 10 Pro. Both 64-bit.

20H2 never disrupted Device Manager for me - it didn't make something "unknown". On the flipside I keep all my drivers and hardware up to date.

Windows update offered .662 on three of our work computers today that had .661 installed.
Only one successfully updated to .662 this way.
The other two had the install error.
I used the in place upgrade with the download tool on one as a test and it installed back to .630.
I was then able to update it through Windows update to .662 with no issues.
I will do the other one tomorrow...

Kind of hard to wait for the other to finish when the other won't proceed until a restart is performed ...
That's what all 4 of mine did.

So..... I bit the bullet and got my machines out of 661 limbo......

Made a Rufus USB of the 20th October iso and used it to set everything back to 630.

After the .Net and the Preview CU we are 662. Multiply that by 4 times (yes....one by one) and I now realise that these were 4 hours of my life I will never get back....
