Use a backup or repair ..........
Glad I decided to go have a coffee and wait for more replies. I will not install KB4586853 if it's problematic. I can wait as 630 has been very reliable, like really good.

So, if you have 661 installed and 662 will not install, you either wait until January for MS to fix it or you do a clean install? I don't want to do a clean install, so I guess I wait.

    Ak
Uni stall the .661 back to .630, then do this update.

The one really significant difference is that in 662 you can now do an in-place repair install that allows you to keep files and installed apps. On 630 you had to make some registry mods before it would allow you to do that.

Unless you're planning on doing an in-place repair any time before next Patch Tuesday, then I'd recommend skipping this Preview update and waiting for that CU.

Is there something concrete that is wrong with this update, or just a gut feel?

661 cant be upgraded to 662 which is what it seems you are trying here.

That error I believe indicates missing files. It's a download error, not an install error, or errors occurring after installation that would warrant avoiding it.

    And what secondsight said......

    Hi,

I'm receiving the same error as @bbinard.
It's the first time something throws such an error on my machines. I'm also on .661 btw.

    Cheers,

Well, I ran the update again and it ended with messages 100% complete, but the Installing message was still there. AFter waiting a while with no change I rebooted OK and was still with 661. Then a popup message said I needed to reboot again, and when I did I got the Installing Updates 30% message for about 2 seconds, and the reboot then completed.

I'm still on 661 so it seems I'm stuck there for who knows how long.
