I just ran the Windows update on my PC with a Sandy Bridge I5-2500K installed. Before and after installation of the update, the microcode was the same...0x2F.

Anybody notice that the processor ID, which is hexadecimal, is interpreted as a floating point number if it ends in E<n>, where <n> is a number? For example 406E3 ends up as 4.06E+05. Seriously MS, proof read your spreadsheets and don't make that column field a scientific number, should be a string ...

Failed to be installed automatically on my end yesterday according to the history, another manual search for updates did not re-try.

I see there is a BIOS update on my motherboard support page so maybe its a pre-requisite for this one?

Edit: A restart have re-prompted for it, though i still wonder if in order to complete the process for a microcode update, i need to update the bios (otherwise its useless).

Edit: Updated the BIOS too, microcode version changed to 0xDE, i guess that's all.

It better not do anything on your PC other than occupy disk space as it's targeted to Intel CPUs

No kidding. Ryzen R5 3600 here.

Tinfoil hat time. Intel forcing Microsoft to push it out to all CPU's so that AMD CPU's can benefit from the reduced performance.

I doubt Intel is forcing Microsoft to do this .... that would make no sense on Intel's part - it's probably M$ just taking the easy out.
