    Update for the removal of Adobe Flash Player: October 27, 2020

    Updated April 2021 :

    To help keep our customers secure, Microsoft will remove the Flash component from Windows through the KB4577586 “Update for Removal of Adobe Flash Player”.

    Starting in June 2021, the KB4577586 “Update for Removal of Adobe Flash Player” will be included in the Preview Update for Windows 10, version 1809 and above platforms. It will also be included in every subsequent Latest Cumulative Update.

    As of July 2021, the KB4577586 “Update for Removal of Adobe Flash Player” will be included in the Latest Cumulative Update for Windows 10, versions 1607 and Windows 10, version 1507. The KB will also be included in the Monthly Rollup and the Security Only Update for Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, and Windows Embedded 8 Standard.

    Additionally, please note that when you update to Windows 10, version 21H1 or later, Flash will be removed. More information on Windows 10, version 21H1 is available here.

    You can also remove Flash anytime by deploying KB4577586, which is available on the Catalog.


    Important notes

    • Adobe Flash Player will go out of support on December 31, 2020. For more information, see Adobe Flash end of support on December 31, 2020.
    • Applying this update will remove Adobe Flash Player from your Windows device.
    • After this update has been applied, this update cannot be uninstalled.
    • This update only removes Adobe Flash Player that was installed by your version of Windows. If you installed Adobe Flash Player manually from another source, it will not be removed. For more information about how to remove Adobe Flash Player, see the Uninstall Flash Player | Windows topic on the Adobe website.


    Summary

    This update removes Adobe Flash Player that is installed on any of the Windows operating systems that are listed in the "Applies to" section. After you apply this update, it cannot be uninstalled.

    Note If you must use Adobe Flash Player again on your device after this update has been installed, use one of the following methods:

    • Method 1: Reset your device to an earlier system restore point. This feature must be explicitly enabled and a system restore point must have been created on your Windows device before you apply this update.

      For more information about system restore point, see Back up and restore your PC.
    • Method 2: Reinstall your Windows operating system, but do not apply this update.

    Known issues in this update

    Issue Resolution
    When this update is applied, registry settings for the third-party provided version of Adobe Flash Player may be removed. To resolve this issue, reinstall the third-party version.

    this update only removes the embedded activex version of flash player
    it does not remove the npapi & ppapi versions of flash player, which those versions can removed separately

    My PCs have v 2004 updated from earlier versions and some have Flash player. How do I remove it since there is no install option and this KB says it does not apply to v2004?

    The catalog link produces updates for 2004 on page 2 of the search results.

    (No idea why Microsoft missed 2004/20H2 from the "Applies to" KB section.)

    Wow, I just got this popup a few minutes ago on the Z170, no popup on the X299 yet.

    Ya I used that. Not sure why you would need a update to remove Adobe Flash Player.
