It is an HP Spectre x2 12-a004tu. HP no longer provides any updates for this machine as it is over 3yrs old - last update was a BIOS & MEI firmware in Dec 2019. It did not even make it to the list of machines HP tested for compatibility with Win 2004.
Here is the drivers page for this machine: https://support.hp.com/nz-en/drivers.../model/9061115
The version of conexant audio driver showing on this page is what is installed on my machine. 2004/20H2 were blocked due to safeguard hold 25178825 - issues with Conexant ISST audio drivers. The lift was removed 4 days ago, without a new driver being installed first. I uninstalled the Conexant HD Audio driver (without rebooting afterwards) as a precaution prior to installing the offered 20H2 update, as I'd read that is a workaround. It reinstalled the exact same driver on rebooting post 20H2 installation. The mute light not working on the f6 key appears to be the only issue I'm having with it, everything else - volume controls, muting, headphone jack, features in the Bang & Olufsen app, quality of audio etc are all perfect. (Actually the speaker quality is rubbish - VERY quiet and no bass, but that's always been the case).
It's old and not the most powerful rig I own by any means, but the tiny footprint and versality of turning into a proper tablet as well as a full functioning laptop (with one of the best keyboards I've used, I might add), the awesome battery life (still!!!!), passive (i.e. silent) cooling, and 1080p webcam are things that I value. I intend to use it until it dies, or doesn't receive necessary updates.
@erpster4 and @Try3 - thanks for the suggestions. I haven't got the machine with me atm but might have a gander at those tools later.
It was probably wise that you uninstalled the driver before upgrade, because I had the upgrade install repeatedly stall at 61% (Windows' install prepping before first reboot), until I uninstalled the offending driver. Now the lappy is sitting at 20H2. If only there was an easy way to block driver installs for particular devices only, on home edition, without installing 3rd party software. Windows will download a 3rd party driver for a device as soon as Windows goes online, as part of the device's install procedure.

Perhaps this tenforums tutorial- from the Tutorial section..
Prevent Windows Update from Updating Specific Device Driver
And remember- you can upgrade Windows without being online. You don't have to get updates as part of upgrading.
UPDATE 4/23:
Known and resolved issues updated for Windows 10 version 20H2. See first post for more details.
Brink,
Just for my understanding as I didn't have any issues with the KB5000842. I looked at the Summary for Known and Resolved issues. Am I correct that when the Status shows resolved, and I didn't see any new KB issued that Microsoft simply sent some small change "out" to resolve the problem, and it's sort of in the background.
Hope that makes sense.
Correct. ;-)

Resolution: This issue is resolved using Known Issue Rollback (KIR). Please note that it might take up to 24 hours for the resolution to propagate automatically to consumer devices and non-managed business devices.
MAY 2020
Errors or issues during or after updating devices with Conexant ISST audio drivers
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...0h2#417msgdesc
Resolved: 2021-05-07, 13:12 PT
Synaptics and Microsoft have found incompatibility issues with certain versions of drivers for Conexant ISST audio driver and Windows 10, version 2004 (the Windows 10 May 2020 Update). Windows 10 devices with affected Conexant ISST audio driver might receive an error or experience issues while installing the update or after the device has updated. The affected driver will be named Conexant ISST Audio or Conexant HDAudio Driver under Sound, video and game controllers in Device Manager and have file name uci64a96.dll through uci64a231.dll and a file version of 7.231.3.0 or lower.
To safeguard your update experience, we have applied a compatibility hold on Windows 10 devices with affected Conexant or Synaptics audio drivers installed from being offered Windows 10, version 2004 or Windows Server, version 2004 until the driver has been updated. If your organization is using Update Compliance, the safeguard ID is 25178825.
Affected platforms:
Client: Windows 10, version 20H2, Windows 10, version 2004
Server: Windows Server, version 20H2, Windows Server, version 2004
Resolution: The safeguard hold with safeguard ID 25178825 has been removed for all devices as of May 7, 2021, including devices with affected drivers. If updated drivers are not available for your device and you are offered Windows 10, version 2004 or Windows 10, version 20H2, a small number of devices might roll back to the previous version of Windows 10 when attempting to update. If this occurs, you should attempt to update to Windows 10, version 2004 or Windows 10, version 20H2 again.
Please note, if there are no other safeguards that affect your device, it can take up to 48 hours before the update to a later version of Windows 10 is offered.
