"Intelligently Rolled Out Updates" for Machine Learning (page 1) seriously this platform has become a joke, the Children @ MS keep rolling out these updates, just have a look at Feedback Hub and see how happy users are, Does M$ want their users to move to Chromebook, as one guy said every time I boot up there is another M$ restart.
Cant they get it together WHERE THERE IS JUST ONE MONTHLY UPDATE ONLY....ONE!

Well until MEGAsoft gets their act together, which may be never, you can do as I'm doing. Go into WU -> Advanced options and pause updates for the maximum of 35 days. When I'm ready, once a month after patch Tuesday I make a full backup, then unpause WU and let it install updates, then after rebooting, I pause for 35 again. Pausing doesn't prevent WDefender av updates from coming in, so my PC is still secure.

Well, you have Pro, so why not set updates to Notify in Group Policy, so you allow updates when you wish them to happen.

Once a month- once a week- it's then up to you. And you can hang back and wait for the flak to die down.

You certainly shouldn't be experiencing Windows Updates that frequently- check your Update History for failures.

Well my little HP Spectre x2 on 1909 with conexant audio drivers from 2017 finally had the update block removed in WU last night, which I found interesting given that I definitely have affected drivers according to the known issue details, and the known issue remains at "confirmed" rather than "mitigated" or "resolved" status. And HP/MS/Synaptics have not provided a new driver (I've been checking regularly, including checking for updates in Device Manager).

Anyway I took the plunge. As a precaution, prior to downloading and installing the Feature Update to 20H2 in WU, I uninstalled my Conexant Smart HD Audio driver in Sound, Video and game Controllers in Device Manager. I checked the box to delete the files, and I did not do a reboot on completion of the uninstall as the system requested. Instead I immediately started the update process for 20H2 in WU. It took 2.5hrs, but it completed without any issue, and now it's running 20H2!

As far as my audio goes, I was worried when I saw in WU after 20H2 had loaded itself up, that under "Drivers" it showed that conexant audio drivers had failed to install. However when I looked in Device Manager the same driver (including version number) had reinstalled, and my speakers definitely do seem to be working OK. The only issue I seem to be having after the upgrade, is that the orange light on the F6 key no longer illuminates when I mute the speakers, but it does still function as a mute/unmute key OK. On completion of the update, the orange light was on and wouldn't turn off (even when speakers were unmuted), however on a further reboot after applying more updates in WU (none of them drivers), the light is now stuck on off! I'm not bothered by this, as the speakers and the key still work perfectly well.

Putting it out there in case it helps others with non-updated conexant drivers, as this process worked well for me with no glitches. It took a long time, but this machine is a bit of a gutless wonder, so...

I have this happen after the odd update . To fix.

Go to device manager and the audio device driver, click disable.. I let device manager refresh... then enable again, the light should come back in ... well it does on my HP Envy

Thanks so much for the suggestion. Sadly this didn't work. I think a driver update is needed, but Synaptics have not made one for my machine.

Same thing happened to that lappy I mentioned earlier, upgrade block is lifted. Obviously MS doesn't care if upgrading results in bluescreens or other malfunctions as long as Windows is kept up to date

what is the hardware device ID number of your Conexant audio or Synaptics audio device listed in the Sound, Video and Game Controllers section of Device Manager (devmgmt.msc), catspyjamas? follow the directions from this site on how to check the hardware ID for a device.

maybe I can try to look for a new Conexant/Synaptics driver version based on the hardware ID you provide for it

edit - also forgot to mention, HP Spectre x2 is too vague as there are many versions of that. what specific model of Spectre x2 do you have? run either Dxdiag.exe or MSInfo32.exe from the Run dialog box to get more specs on that laptop
