No. It's because I've never quite discovered something 'broken' in between updates.
My point was sfc could have shown corruption before the update, but of course it's just speculation unless we ran sfc immediately before the update - and I don't generally do that myself.

I used to do it but it would always come out clear because (I guess) I had already checked at the prior update. I even do some random ones hear and there if I observe a glitch. I'll keep you posted

Like you, I do sfc randomly and when it fails, I have no idea what caused it . Maybe others have some thoughts on this.

When I click on Optional updates, I get all these Device Drivers now:

    KB4579311 Cumulative Update Windows 10 v2004 build 19041.572 - Oct. 13-image.png

As far as I can tell, they are all down level drivers. Why is Microsoft showing me this trash?

I have a few of them as well, started about 2 weeks ago with Intel and Samsung drivers, which I have more upto date of installed.

What problem required the reinstallation? I've had to do that before when Windows Search stopped working a few months back with 2004 and other fixes I tried didn't work.

Just popped a USB in with music, played a few track, and ejected it via File Manager then removed it with no issues. Did you nicely eject it first to keep Windoze happy?
After attempting to remove a good USB memory stick three times, Windows went into recovery on the 4th re-boot. I attempted to fix window, that failed, so it also asked if I wanted to remove the last "quality update", I said go for it. Its been running ok since then, but I going to try and update it again using the .MSU. Maybe something got lost during the update. Will keep this posted.

Interesting, as when I check my Optional updates it shows none.
