Run SFC Command in Windows 10 if you can't resolve this, consider making a thread about the issue.

Encountered this error, (0x800f0988) installing KB4579311.
Done manual download and install failed too.

After this update the reg reset for the removal of the settings in "View update history no longer works. Prier to this update the reg tweak worked fine. Also this build is shown as 19042.572.

Yesterday Update downloaded and tried to install KB4579311. It failed with the usual message "Undoing changes"

WHEN will MS get this problem sorted out? Or are we stuck with 2004 for ever!

KB4579311 (OS Build 19041.572) installed just fine for me no issues so far...

Try a few, but none works. Yet to try Reset one.

I will have a look at that. In the meantime I have used the Hide Updates (wushowhide.diagcab) method which at least allows me to restart without trying and failing again!
