It won't even install from the stand alone updater. It fails too. Both ways give error code 0x8007000d
I had a thought after looking at How to fix Update error 0x8007000d in Windows 10 - Howtoedge

on win 10 home group policy editor isn't enabled.... then I remembered I had just looked at some of the choices in majorgeeks bundle of joy (to repair windows from the modern catastrophe into to something functional) and one choice is to enable GPE using their bat file with elevated privileges. Just tried this on my one windows 10 PC that has failed to install updates from Aug 2020 and now its working at last !!!

Download MajorGeeks Windows Tweaks - MajorGeeks check the Miscellaneous folder

I looked at the link at the end and got an extremely confusing list of somethings, but no mention of enabling GPE, or any joy!.
When Malwarebytes started complaining about PUPs, I gave up. Maybe a misspelt link?

it puzzle's me how people fail to click the correct download button. I've been using that site everyday for more than 10 years never had an issue, the link is correct....

yes, the site is funded by flashing garbage bouncing about (like all of them), but your ad blocker should hide all and solve any of that. In the page UNDER "Download Now" yellow and green box, are two text only Download@MajorGeeks links, I always pick the lower one, then you get the choice to download a 700kb file. Grab a copy open the zip and you get a bunch of folders with reg tweaks and a link to say what each feature does. Add GPE is in Miscellaneous folder

When taking a look at choices, inside the Win update folder, I think its worth clearing download history. Otherwise Dec update seemed to think it was still available (even though windows history had an installed successfully message on my PC dated 23-12-2020 the date the GPE went on (and after I saw that update install)

As soon as GPE went on the machine the reboot loop was gone !!!

With Dec cumulative windows update installed, the first one since the last successful windows update in July 2020, I rebooted and I finally felt brave enough to go to 2h2 and that went on and that PC no longer reports any missing updates in RED like it has been doing for the last 4 months

I didn't get around to clicking on anything! I was just wandering around the page trying to find any reference to GPE as in your description. I have to take it slow as my eyesight is poor.

Thanks for the detail. I will t ry again in a few days.
