I just finished a new recording studio desktop build yesterday. The old one was doing OK (it was an i7 6700K) but for upcoming recording studio upgrade I needed Thunderbolt 3. My new build is Gigabyte Z390 Designaire, which has Thunderbolt 3, with an i7 8700K (I didn't go with a newer CPU as Cost vs performance wasn't there or needed).

I think he was in a hurry to get to the package store about a 1/2 mile away from the intersection. His BAC was .26.

    Two reasons Pro:
    1. New even more powerful hardware on the market.
    2. it's fun building a new machine and benching it when done.

    One reason Con:
The world doesn't need anymore E-waste pollution if your current machine does what you want now.
Please recycle or give the usable parts/machines to a local charity.

Since No one else in the Family wanted another Desktop machine, instead of e wasting it, i traded it in for discount off new build, sure only got $120 for my old Asus OEM motherboard, and I7 7700 processor, dvd drive, and card reader from old system.

But money saved, is money saved lol

Went for Intel 10700, Gigabyte B460M motherboard

My old build went to my brother. An upgrade for him as he has a 8 year old entry level laptop.

Bad advice right from the very start, stopped reading right there. Lowest price/best value is Ryzen nowadays.

    What processor do you need?

Your needs influence what processor is right for you.

    • Best value, lowest price: The 10th Gen Intel® Core™ i3 processor is perfect if you're looking for a sub-$500 computer for basic computing tasks.
    • Everyday requirements: If you're looking to balance performance and cost, the 10th Gen Intel® Core™ i5 processor helps you find this balance.
    • Heavy work and play: If you're a gamer or work a lot on your computer, 10th Gen Intel® Core™ i7 and i9 processors are worth the expense and peace of mind.

I've not tried Ryzen, but my experiences with AMD haven't been very good over the years. Drivers have been a big recurring problem. When they left me high and dry without a necessary current graphics card driver and Nvidia was instantly there for an older card, that finally did it for me.

The AMD Ryzen's are popular, but for audio recording its Intel, according to a custom PC builder that builds audio systems (his clients include major TV and recording studios).
