I still can't see a 7 hour upgrade unless the download speeds are slow or capped. That's just maddening.

Anyway I've still only been offered the update on 1 of 3 non-insiders machines (main desktop) and that took less than 2 hours. System one in my system specs. System two now has no OS since I replaced the OS drive so that's going to be an attempted clean install. My 2017 Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga X1 still hasn't been offered the update despite having all the latest patches, firmware, and drivers.

Hi there that's not always true after you then include time taken to have to go and install all the various applications you had on your old system. -- Hunt for serial numbers, licenses, upgrades, drivers (which might not work on the new release) -- especially when the company you got the Soft / Hardware from has long since gone out of business etc etc.

Upgrades in general will allow existing software with its hardware to continue working -- not always true but Windows is quite good in this type of upgrade process, Sometimes after doing a New install those drivers won't work even if you can find them any more as the original manufacturers may well long have ceased to exist.

W10 upgrade is quite good at trying to maintain existing hardware drivers - even me as a "Linux Bigot at times" have to respect Windows very capable system update of maintaining old hardware drivers on existing systems -- not always 100% perfect but does - considering the myriad of different hardware out there a very good job.

Agreed you have to reinstall programs but how many do most domestic users have that they really need?

    Hi there
Most domestic users aren't usually on these Forums trying new builds --they probably run machines on the pre-installed OS they got when they bought the computer in the first place --And until they get new ones - a lot probably don't even bother with regular "Standard" updates / security updates either.

    Cheers

I have many more 3rd party applications that I use more that the Windows Apps. A clean install for me entails finding al the keys, and it can take some time. If all I used was Windows 10 and it's apps, I would have no need for Macrium Reflect.

I have a SP6 running 1909 18363.1016 and 2004 has not been offered to me. Standard message was you will be notified when ready. Yesterday checked for updates and was offered an update that brought the version to 18363.1082. Checked again there it was, 2004 was ready . Downloaded and installed without issue, now on 2004 19041.508! A long list of files including 2 bios updates, scary to say the least.

I was able to upgrade our 2012 HP laptop to v2004 using the USB method. Process took about 2 hours without an issue.

I keep an Excel spreadsheet listing all my electronics to include parts that went into builds; There's also a tab for software where I keep all my keys (whether active or not).

As soon as get a piece of software with a license key it's logged. And I can access this file anywhere.

    That's me.
